    hey all

i have a blue apple mac, one of the older ones, thats built into a monitor (not sure of the exact model)

according to the sticker at the back, it has a 400mhz cpu, 128mb of ram, 10g hdd, cd, lan, 56k (bleurgh!)

however, i dont have a keyboard or a mouse for it!

is there any way i can get my microsoft keyboard and mouse (USB) to talk to the apple mac?

its running os 9.1 if its any help!

    thank you all!

    thats the thing though.

    it doesnt! lol

the mouse will move, but it wont allow me to click on anything

and on the desktop, the mac drive is highlighted, but if i press enter, it doesnt do anything!

is it a dud mac and should i install another os on it?! the problem is, i cant install another os on it without a keyboard/mouse!

(i got it for free by the way!:))

You could try getting a cheap imac set on ebay if yours don't work. (they should do tho)

I suppose the fact its os 9 not 10 could cause problems.

Weird. It is an iMac btw. Like gordy suggested you could try to find a keyboard/mouse set for your iMac. It shouldn't cost you that much..

Well in OS X it would try to rename the drive when you press enter. Apple + down = open (for some quirky reason). But I don't know what would be the equivalent of an Apple key on a Microsoft keyboard. Perhaps alt. Try alt + down and see what happens.

the windows meta key = the apple key

and it works fine. try rebooting with the keyboard and mouse plugged in... also try installing OSX panther or tiger (10.3 or 10.4)

and open is apple+O (or windows key + O on a win keyboard.

I think Command-Down manages to open things as you use up and down arrows (with the Command/Apple key) to navigate up and down directories. Command-O however is open (look in File menu if you dont beleive me) plus I cant remember if Command-Up/Down worked pre OSX.

Its very strange you can move the mouse but not click. Have you tried a different USB port. Does it do the same thing? Different mouse? Mice for me have always just worked with Macs.
