Stanley. Bit Tech is not your average 'gamer' forum, yes, we all swear, and make the occasional stupid joke, but we do like to keep things as mature and respectful as possible. You've unfortunately not picked up on that, which is the real mistake you've made; know your audience. I'm sure posts like this would be met with glee at Gamespot etc, but here, or the likes of Rock Paper Shotgun, you'll just get called out for attention seeking and chip on your shoulder immaturity.

Its up to you how you go forward and respond to people's criticism. One path, accepting that you've probably made a bad call and put something out there that jives with the community spirit, leads to everyone moving on, and reacceptance. The other, attacking those who've criticised you, will lead to a general loss of respect and a damaged reputation in the eyes of the people you share the forum with. If that happens, then there's not much point left in being here, because that is all we are, a reputation.

If all of the above sounds condescending, then it's definitely worth thinking about why I've taken the time to write this. Is it because I am a generally condescending person (do I have a reputation for this), or because I thought you'd maybe misjudged BT, and were confused about why people were reacting the way they have.

I take your points... But I have to say... Keeping things mature and respectful is something that a number of members here should also try to keep in mind. I had to make the point when I had someone telling me I was an idiot and that he'd read my other posts and knew enough about me to know that I was a waste of time.

So yes, I can say that bit tech doesn't like "****" but I also find it quite revealing how unpleasant and childish some people here can be in dealing with something they take a dislike to. Whenever anyone screams "ban him!" then alarm bells ring.

So for me it's somewhat ironic to be jumped on and called "idiot" for posting a word when the response from some people here was far worse than my crime. And that is something that people should try to learn. Question why it is you'd need to become so aggressive with someone over something like that.

I know sod all about anyone here and no one knows anything about me. Which means that someone who claims to know me from what I post is projecting.... There are underlying issues with some people and my "****" certainly brought it out.

You may feel that I am to blame here because of what I posted... Clearly posting it was not a good move but the response from some people here was much worse than any amount of wanking I have done.

So for me... I conclude that if I am someone who can be bullied and bashed into submission by people who claim they know enough about me... Then I'd have to be very needy and wanting to fit in at all costs. I can't say that's me. I'm completely and utterly uninterested in pecking order and being submissive in the hope that people will "accept me".

I'm not going to judge everyone here and say I don't like the place. We all have different views and takes on life. A few people here at least were able to recognize that although my "****" was puerile... the way in which it was dealt with was pretty nasty.

So... Bottom line... I'm not going to post stuff I know will annoy people but at the same time I'm not going to be bullied and have people tell me they know "enough" about me.

I don't know anyone here and I would not make any assumptions about them from their posting even if I don't like what they say. At the very least... people here should try to remember that someone is not just what they post on a fecking forum. They have lives offline and we all have our own things to deal with.

Would you have told your friend he should be banned? Shouted at him? Told him he was an idiot?

 

I get it, you are trying to squeeze the word ****, or say that you are wanking, into as many posts as you can in this thread. The premise for your joke isn't very funny.

No one is bullying you, people are trying to help you be a better person and improve your wit. As at the mo your jokes aren't funny. ****-ing - we all know, does not mean to use to word ****.

Yup, I was "xxxx" crazy. It's just something that comes with moon phases. I can be normal for months and then a few days of insanity and then I'm as right as rain after.

"**** mountain" was a bit excessive but I try to look at it this way... If I hadn't created a twitter account with that word in it a few years ago... Then I wouldn't have received a temporary ban on toms hardware... and then I may never have found that mountain.

So rather than just seeing it as only a negative experience... I can see it as a largely negative experience with some positive also.

Also, let's not forget: you made a thread for this. That's not like mentioning it casually in a conversation. You apparently found the fact that you chose the name “iWankTV” and got banned for it important enough to create a whole new thread and focus everyone's attention on it.

I agree that calling you an idiot or asking for you to get banned went a bit too far, but this is not a mob hating on a single person; it's mostly you defending your nickname while everyone else is telling you that it's puerile and not worth defending.

Now let's get this over with and all go back to our regular forum activities; I'm sure you're a nice chap, Stanley, but you should realise that making this thread in the first place was, well, a bad move. The fact that some responded disproportionately does not change that.

I actually didn't know posting it was going to end up in a 5 or 6 page furball. That's not to say it's everyone else's fault. Just that I didn't know enough about bit tech to see it coming.

I have not a hint of argument with people saying it wasn't the best name to use or that they think the ban was warranted. I myself have no problem with the ban. It's their forum. It hadn't been an issue on any of the other places in a 2 year period so I actually didn't think any more about it.

I only got angry yesterday when the name calling started and the calls for ban.

Apart from that I don't feel the need to go posting "****" on bit tech or anywhere else.
