I have just tried to shut my computer down and it does not turn off on it's own like it did before? When I logged on again I went in to power management and the APM tab had gone does this mean I now cannot shut my computer using the Advanced Power Management?? his seems strange as yesterday I could but now I can't??? Any help would be great!!

    Thanks

some mobos bios let you do this kinda thing...bios could be glitched. Consult you're mobo manual on how to change this setting in bios, if that fails look for documentation of proper use of the CLR_CMOS jumper. This may fix the problem.

I had the same problem with another system i built, upgraded to xp and now auto power off. The solution i found was to put the power settings in the bios to default and then boot into the os.

Poked xp to search for new hardware and see what it came up with and it found the power management in the bios, then went to the power setting and enabled it.

Low and behold when you select shut down from the start menu or pressed the power button it shuts itself down.
