Try this, install/re-install the BSD Subsystem and then install AnySim1.2.1u, switch the phone into Airplane mode, and then run the unlock. I remember I had to do that for mine (I went from 1.0.2 -> 1.1.1 -> 1.1.2 -> 1.1.3).

Do you guys actually talk to eachother in the office or do you only communicate on the forums? Is this sort of a vow of silence at the monastary? :eyebrow:

Jamie's special - he has a special room in a special office for special people. Us editorial types are in a different office at the moment. :p

My iPhone is a fat iPod as Dawg points out :)

They have to talk on the forums because us TrustedReviews types might overhear their talking and steal their ideas. Such as 90 per cent of Tim's news :p

It's possible yours can still be saved as there seem to be some successes from different people in unlocking the 1.1.3 baseband but it's more or less luck.

Well it's a risk you take when you hack a device. That's hardly specific to Apple and Sony products.

I've reinstalled the BSD subsystem and I've got iPhoneSIMfree installed and it said that the unlock process was successful. I followed the video on Gizmodo and it basically works up until the point where the phone reboots and says it's activated.

Agreed, but Apple and Sony products seem to both put out products begging to be hacked.

I don't look at my average samsung and say "Man, I wish I could find a way that this wasn't tied to a single company." or "I wish there was some way to install non-microsoft software on my Windows Mobile phone".

You still run a risk when hacking something, but I think his point was that with non-apple phones you usually don't have as strong a desire to hack them. (I think people just see the form-factor and interface and are blown away, and after spending $400 on a phone they want to add extra functionality as well.)

Well yeah, but it's still really your own fault for trying if something goes wrong (don't take that the wrong way Tim). I don't see anything especially desirable about Sony products, but then again I generally don't find a whole lot that's desirable about Apple hardware - just their software. Even with the awful screen, lack of wireless, and mostly-broken sound on my old school Thinkpad, I still preferred using it day-to-day after hacking OSX86 on to it than my better-specced, works-perfectly Macbook Pro. It sure wasn't pretty, but it was so much more comfortable to use - much cooler, better ergonomics, better battery life, etc.

Then again, I think the iPhone is really an exception there. I've had no need to hack anything on my MBP (I changed the dock color, big whoop) but the iPhone really is begging to be hacked. Now in my case I've had no interest in changing the carrier - partly for lack of options (T-mobile has worse service around here than AT&T which is equal to Verizon; at least I didn't have to go to an AT&T store to buy the iPhone as I have to assume it would be like my last Verizon experience), partly knowing that they'd be much more against a carrier unlock than some software changes. But I've got mine jailbroken and all that other good stuff.

Hacking is all part of the fun - it's just a shame it came to an abrupt end :)
