    Hello,

I need a low end box that doesn't cost very much, won't be doing much, just running a web app with a simple mysql database - will be used by about 4 users so it really doesn't need to be that powerful.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Would like ubuntu/debian, and would need full root ssh access and probably a public ip address.

Would prefer something in the UK.

Can you do it with a Raspberry Pi?

    As said :
    1) Pi
    2) NUC 847 + mSATA SSD + 2-4GB RAM (should be bellow 200 euros)
    3) old unused laptop ?

yes and no, probably yes it could run it, but, I don't really want it on site and I want to be able to access it anywhere. Basically I don't want the responsibility of looking after the hardware for it and want to access it anywhere.

I want a hosted box somewhere, in the internets for this, not a local box.

I'm not sure work would go for that - as I think they want some kind of SLA for uptime etc.

But thanks for the offer :)

Have you seen my datacentre? 15 mins of downtime in the last 6 years and that was for a complete hardware migration of the new blades.

    Which datacentre is it?

I know this - but work like things to be above board and have contracts and SLA's in place, etc. I'm not personally doubting it ;)

well in a strange turn of events, it is looking like maybe I will be hosting it in house instead, not on pi's though, on cubie 2 boards (as I think they are better) (or the cubie truck if I can get a couple of those). I am planning on slowly migrating my whole linux monitoring network onto cubie boards so it just makes more sense, and my lease line in the office is 100mb.

Pentium Dual-Core here, powering 4 Ubuntu server VMs, as well as the host machine.
Poor thing doesn't get much time to relax...

Margon, did you check out lowendboxes.com? the forums on lowendtalk are pretty good, if you post your requirements you'll usually get plenty of reasonable offers.

I use httpzoom in the UK when i need a small linux box.
