    Hi guys.

I need a new watch, and it should be not just any watch. I need a watch that is:

    - waterproof down to depths that normal humans can reach while diving (say, 10 meters)
    - preferably black
    - metal chain
    - price of around 100 to 150£
    - simple and stylish, I don't need something which will measure 3 different timezones, adjust the tint of the glass according to my drink and connect me to NORAD on my wrist.

My previous watch was this one: (without the extra dials)

The problem with it was the craptastic build quality, and the companys downright shitty CS.

I hope you guys can point in the right direction!

Really? I've been longing for a Skagen and had a look at one when I was shopping earlier, don't tell me it's a waste of money? :(

Unfortunatly, my experiences with them have been poor.

Got the watch in 2009, after two months there started to appear residue on the inside of the watch, apparently, "Pressure proof to 3atm" doesn't equal waterproof (anyone who has done high school physics will know that 3atm equals to a depth of 20 meters). What had happened was, that whenever I went to the gym I would keep the watch on my wrist and over time sweat would get in it. Then the sweat dried out leaving miniscule salt crystals on the inside of the glass.

I got the glass covered under warranty.

After another 6 months of use where I had to take it off every time I went somewhere with water (major inconvenience for a me as I do quite a lot of physical exercise). The glass simply cracked after I hit not the watch but my wrist on a bicycle handlebar. At the time I was biking around the danish city of Skagen, which is the hometown of the Skagen Watch brand. I figured "Hey, I'll just drop by their main office and they'll be able to repair the glass for me in a day or two". Alas, I went to the store and this most unhelpful lady told me that under no circumstance could they repair it without a proof of purchase. We are talking a model which had only been in circulation for 8 months, so still perfectly within the 2 year warranty here in Denmark. Cue me being mad. I had the glass replaced when I got home, but it was an inconvenience none the less.

Then, after 10 months I managed to somehow again get moisture inside of the watch, not sure whether it was from me washing hands, or it simply being very humid at the time and moisture condensing inside the watch. I tried to dry the watch on the radiators at home, and somehow the glass on the watch cracked yet again.

So now I have a nice looking Skagen watch lying in a drawer with a cracked face. Never again am I gonna pay for **** like that.

You want something with a mechanical movement, or a quartz? I remember Skagen's selling point being very thin - is that preferable?

    Same with me buddy.

I have two watches. My casual one which is a Nixon "Block" which I believe is pretty bomb-proof as its strapped to my wrist when im 16000feet up there and when I'm working out, and my work one which is some insanely overpriced "look at my awesome" watch that really won't go good for you.

Like Alex said, check Nixon out, they might be hitting £90-£150 sometimes (UK obviously) but they're worth it, They're bomb-proof.

Mechanical would be nice, but wouldn't it be a bit out of budget? As for thin-ness, I have rather large hands and wrists so a thicker watch wouldn't bother me.

I have always found Nixon to be a "look at me Imma cool skater" brand, but I will make sure to give them a look since you guys recommend them.

I'll be honest, they're pretty "show-off" occassionally. My blocks pretty tasty but the damn thing doesn't die... It also appears pretty water-resistant aswell buddy :) You can swim with it on and it doesn't go. HOWEVER it is digital so that might be something? Personally I like both...

I have a Traser H3, the basic one (6500). slightly above your quoted price range, but it's been very very reliable. the brand isn't even on the face on mine - not showy at all, but still a cool watch.

I'd always go vintage rather than new. Take a look in some second hand shops, can pick up quite a bargain..

My sexy two tone SEIKO runs perfect after wearing it and bumping it into things every day at work, for ~13 years, the only maintenance ever performed has been a battery change every ~4-5 years.

The look and quality of the best expensive watches, but within your price range, and they aren't ridiculously thick like most expensive watches... why are they so thick

This. My mum and dad bought me a seiko watch for my 21st, for three years I kept it in a box on my window sil because I was too damn lazy to get the links removed and it was only until my sisters wedding I got it adjusted. The thing was 10 minutes out of time, which over 3 years I think it pretty damn impressive.

I wear it everyday now pretty much, like you I do a lot of exercise so it gets knocked about a bit, but i've pretty much not had an issue with it. The only issue I did find with it was that I do a lot of cycling, and if you imagine where a watch sits on your wrist, with my riding position its easy to knock the stopwatch buttons which is a bit of a pain in the arse. But I got round that by buying one of those fancy gps bike computers so I can time all my sessions with that instead :)

I have a Skagen watch with a metal mesh band. I don't like the fact that I cant take it swimming, but its so light and comfy. It's super thin and I cant even hardly tell its on because of how light it is. And the mesh band is incredible.

    I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007X9F74

I have really tiny wrists. It may not be the most durable watch out there but for the $70 I paid for it, its worth it.

I have one of these in silverwith a metal strap:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Casio-Mens-Sports-Watch-W94HF-8AV/dp/B000JC5UUO/ref=sr_1_11?s=watch&ie=UTF8&qid=1310314123&sr=1-11

Might not be to your taste but it's cheap, stylish (in my opinion anyway), resists water well (although I don't know how it handles pressure since I've never dived with it, says it will handle 5 BAR) and has a lot of functionality.

I know it's not what you're looking for but I wanted to recommend it anyway as it's been such a great watch for me, I did break the strap on it but that was becasue I kept fiddling with it.
