ok something odd is going on with XP Pro.
i went to print some files, (24 to be exact) by highlighting them right click on hitting print. Now i klnow this makes it slow but the thing wouldnt print and a window for every file came up saying the RPC server is unavailable.
so i reboot thinking that the fact that the laptop has been running for 16 days straight might be causing a problem. well when it reboots and i log in all i see is my wallpaper
no system try, no quicklaunch bar, no desktop icons NOTHING
so i hit CTRL + ALT + DEL to bring up the task manager. i look under processes and sure enough Explorer isnt running, now i know that is the interface so i go to launch it manualy find the exe and run it (this is done from the applications section "new task" button and i get the pointer withy the hour glass telling me its working then the hourglass goes away but still no explorer.

Has anyone ever had this problem before. I am unable to find the XP disc to do a repair, and was wondering if any of you know of another solution. This is a 911 situation as i need my term paper that is on there, i need to turn it in in less the 36 hours.

    PLEASE HELP!!!!

If a couple of reboots still hasn't got anything back for you, put in a boot disk and get yourself to a DOS prompt. Then you can put in another floppy and save the exact files you need for your term paper onto the disk. Go to another computer and print from there, one at a time this time. As for fixing your laptop, did you try booting in Safe Mode to diagnose where the error was occuring? One file recovery app you might want to try is here.

You could try removing the HD from laptop and connecting it to a pc with the help of some adaptors.
Should be easy to then to copy the necessary files through dos.
