my friend just got an Xbox360 for his birthday, and i was going to pick up a WRT54G and put DD-WRT on it, and turn it into a wireless repeater (hopefully a hybrid wireless repeater/bridge) so he can get a good signal for xbox live.

what would work perfect would be if i could set up the WRT so he could plug an ethernet cable between the 360 and WRT to get a connection, but also use it as a wireless repeater to extend the range of the network i set up for him a few months ago (reception in his room is dodgy sometimes)

it would make sense if this was possible because you can use the router in its stock state with a mix of wired and wireless connections all connecting to the internet.

he knows just about nothing about computers, so he won't be fiddling with any settings, and he doesn't need of the fancy stuff like the rflow collector thing. he just needs something i plug in in his room then connect the xbox to it and he can play xbox live and get better wifi with his laptop. if i do this he'll pick me up some mags for my sig when he's in idaho, so please help.

the only reason i'm bothering you guys is that it is a revision 8 router, which only supports the micro version of DD-WRT, and i'm not experienced enough with this to know if i can turn the WRT into a repeater/bridge.

    thank you for any help

I did once try this with dd-wrt on my WRT54-GL, but I finally gave up and used OpenWrt instead. If you’re competent with iptables (or you can just copy and paste instructions from the wiki) you can quite easily set it up how you want.

Should work quite well with DD-WRT set up in "Client Bridge" mode.

(should be in the micro version)

When downloading the micro file DO NOT Download:
    -dd-wrt.v23_micro_wrt54g.bin
    -dd-wrt.v23_micro_wrt54gs.bin
    -dd-wrt.v23_micro_wrt54gsv4.bin
    -dd-wrt.v23_micro_wrtsl54gs.bin

    You must use:
    -dd-wrt.v23_micro_generic.bin

    Many people make this mistake.
