So I have 3 audio setups. By far my favorite is a Pioneer amp and a pair of 100W 3-way floorstanding speakers hooked to my PC via SPDIF. My second best is a pair of Sony MDR-V600 headphones. And the abesolute worst thing I've heard is my $20 Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers- thats two tweaters and a 3" sub. Who calls a 3" speaker a sub? The 3" may not provide amazing bass, but I think it provides enough for casual listening, the biggest problem is that the 3" "subwoofer" plays frequencies that are directional. Right now the sub and right speaker are on one side of my LCD with the other speaker on the opposite side- I can not hear anything from either of the tweeters- they are competely useless- I don't have stereo sound, I have a crippeled mono system. My ears demand something that sounds good (I won't demand "great", just better than the current speakers) and my wallet demands something cheap. I don't really want to move up my good speakers 'cause I'm living in a dorm and don't want to put anything of high value in my room. L J
Cambridge Soundworks makes great multimedia speakers. I own a pair myself (although I mutilated it), and they've been rocking strong for a long while. $50 Set Decent. The subwoofer makes a great midbass driver (and is not a horrible subwoofer), and when using the amp to drive some Klipsch speakers, this sounds really great (although only 17 watts). I would not suggest this if anything below 70hz is important to you --- unless you get a seperate sub. $80 Set Better. Upgraded subwoofer, same surrouds as above. $150 Set Kickin ass! Better sattelites, 6.5" woofer with 8" passive radiator. On an implementation note - Why, exactly, do you have your subwoofer on your desk!??! It belongs on the floor, against the wall, and NOWHERE else.
Hmm i to own a pair of cambridge soundworks, the first pair you listed zachriggle and i never found the sub to be great in anyway. It makes more of a bass sound then it does make "bass." If i were you i would give this a try [URL=Hmm i to own a pair of cambridge soundworks, the first pair you listed zachriggle and i never found the sub to be great in anyway. The sub put out awesome bass which is a plus for me because i am looking to buy a news 2.1 speaker system for the top of my desk. I would definitely recommend these. Or of you can cough up a little bit more cash, go for these. I have 2 of these systems, one in my living room, and one in our other computer room. These systems are one of the best systems i have ever had(besides my bose) The bass is unbelievable and the sound is very rich. If your living in a small dorm then this sub will definitley shake it up. it has adjustable bass and volume control right their at the tips of your finger. I would recommend these if you can afford them. http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/promedia-2-1.aspx (I have to post just the url because something is up, everytime i put a link in it highlights red when you rollover it and you cant click on it...wierd) Hope that helps
I'm pretty sure Bose are the most overrated sound equipment supplier ever... I'd say either headphones (head-fi.org) or some nice Klipsch if you want speakers.
Lol what is with people and saying that bose is overrated? So alot of people buy them and like them...Bose must be doing something right then? I like my bose, you dont always have to stand out from the crowd and buy something different, its just your personal opinion. Nothing is wrong with bose. I did mention that klipsch made a good speaker did i not? Im just trying to give suggestions, forgive me for trying to help.
I can say in all honesty that I could piece together a system of equal sound quality to most BOSE setups for 10% of the cost. No joke. Their $3000+ lifestyle systems ar about equal, or actually worse, than what you could buy for $300. It's not that they make excessively horrible gear, it's just that it cost an obscene amount considering what you get. Horrendous even. Where does that excess profit go? engineering and reasearch? Nope, it goes into advertising and brainwashing people into believing there is nothing better.
Lol, i would never buy a new system, I paid 90 bucks for my bose system, and for $90 bucks the quality of sound i get is just perfect. Never would i buy a new bose system.
Thanks for all the suggestions. =) Because the little 3" "sub-woofer" is so directional I can not hear a thing if I put it on the floor. L J
