i just finished my case side last week which i've painted high gloss black i did it like this (all in just 1 day tho) first a good layer of primer, than 2 layers of the high gloss black and finally 2 layers of blank paint (don't know if that's the right word in english) but... now i wanted something changed and as i was working with my case side the paint was coming off anyone any idea how it comes my paint is ''falling off''
was the metal really smooth before you primed it? the paint may not be "sticking" as theres nothing for it to hold to. it needs to be slightly rough, by using some wet and dry paper. if however you did that i have no idea lol
Before painting, you will need to use sand paper on the metal, the prime it, when dry, use sand paper, paint it, but you will need to sand each layer of paint, then you will need to use the laquer. Hope you sort it out mate
Yep. Because if you rough up each layer a bit first, then the next layer has something to grip onto and should then solve your problem.
Its also a good idea to leave some curing time before going to a different type of paint. Like after priming, wait 24 hours before doing your colour coat, and wait 24 hours before doing the clear coat.
so... first sand it up a little (till it's rough enough ) than 1 or 2 layers primer on 1 day? or even 1 layer in 1 day? second 1 or 2 layers black -non highgloss- third 1 or 2 layers black highgloss fourth 2 to 4 layers clearcoat that should be it and than it should be up and running ?
There are links to painting guides on the forums somewhere... or you'll find them on Google But I'm in a generous mood... so here's a couple: Spray paint your case - and give it a mirror finish Shatterstar's Painting Guide Had you read someguides before you started the job of course, you'd have saved yourself a whole lot of time and hassle
yes...all good and all great... but i know how to paint and this paint just didn't attach well at all to the panel... so i've asked and concluded that i should wait longer and sand between each individual layer of paint before i continue
i've sanded the side panel, so no 'old paint' was on it anymore than i've sanded with 320 and cleaned up with amonia (anyone a good tip for cleaning up stuff? ... th retailer here doesn't sell it anymore ) than i've painted it with primer 1 coat and waited 2 hours, sanded it slightly and covered it in another coat of paint ... the result
I can’t recommend anything very suitable to your work as of now. I suggest that you should purchase paints that would stick well to your backer. One thing too, do you really have to use ammonia for cleaning? Ammonia has awful smell and it could ruin your lungs. I hope you can find an alternative for that. John
