I think you should send this to Mythbusters so we can see how big the explosion would have been... Good job though
Congratulations, Captain, you did your job and you did it better than the muppets who were meant to be doing it. Try not to get used as a patsy by someone else
Near miss report: A tanker filled with xxxxxx and xxxxxxx was inadvertently left unattended for several days. The chemicals were reacting, generating xxxxxx gas build up within the tanker. This was noticed and reported by Mr. true_l33t_gamer, to the supervisor Mr dumduma$$h4t. The gas was allowed to vent into the atmosphere, as it wasn't any more toxic than all the other pollutants we dump into the environment. No injuries or casualties were involved, except for a couple of birds that were flying past when we released the gas, who we first thought had melted and died, but it now seems that they have become a new flying breed of undead. We fear these two birds will infect the whole town, which is why we will be dismissing Mr. true_l33t_gamer.
Read it on cache, good work - dont know why you shouldnt be telling us, someone made a bit fo a mistake and you rectified, well done
Really? You had a chemical reaction which caused a build up of gas. If this gas reached a point where it ruptured the tanker is it combustible and is there a source of ignition? The diet coke and mentos is a good analogy but its also an extreme example of a reaction. If this tanker had been sitting for a while it does not sound like the reaction was that extreme to my uneducated understanding.
There's always one! Whilst this Chemical reaction was going on, the trailer was not earthed, which would have lead to a build up of static electricity. (Ignition source!) There was a flammable solvent which was used to clean out the tank, which is now mixed with the other Chemicals in the tanker. (This is what helped cause the reaction, as well as direct sunlight heating it up to its boiling point.)
I am just trying to get an understanding of what happened is all. The wife is an HSE professional and it rubs off on me and I have an interest in these types of events.
Yeah...."first link" is page 5 which doesn't even have a 'cached' link available. Thanks Mr Baboon for the link, I'm now informed!
Nope, tried that too. Just doesn't seem to show for me. I'm in the know now though but thanks any way!
That^, hence why I used the html from the first page & it worked for me- if I can do it any idiot should be able to...
Does everyone on this forum now have to be such condescending ball bags as part of the forum rules? 1) SuicideNeil posted the solution (which I quoted. Look further up the page^) which I took the URL directly from and found that it only spat up page 5 - Meaning? SuicideNeil had not take the HTML from the first page 2) Copying the url whilst on the first page (http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=211691) brings up, what?: The fifth page.
my turn to be a hero, not as good as true_gamers, but i stopped an hgv yesterday, which could potentially have had a blowout or fire. i noticed the wagon behind me, had something in the front wheel arch, i stopped in a position that prevented him from over taking me, and got out pointed out the problem. he didnt realise what was going on, so i pulled a rather warm tyre from the wheel arch. i took it around to the driver, and got him to have a look at his own tyre, which had a wear groove, of around 3/4 of an inch deep, by about 1 inch wide at the edge of the tread area.
