In Crysis i have most every thing on med except objects on high shaders on high particals on low and sound on low. I play this at 1980x1200 on a 24 inch wide screen and when i use the bench marks i get 31 fps CPU and 29.8 on GPU average i use a q6600 oc to 3.0 800mhz ram at 4-4-4-12 and a 8800 gtx if I lower the resolution to native which I think is 1080 x 800 or something like that i can play at very high on all but if it is streched out to my 24 inch wide screen it looks horrible if i play it in windowed mode it looks great but my desktop back ground shows and is annoying. For your question about what GPU's to use I went with a 8800GTX because in the future i will buy another 8800 GTX and SLI it when their prices drop hoping next year june or july and also the drivers will be out to max out SLI as right now their not the greatest and terrible on ATI's. i run 64 bit vista so i can run 4 or 8 Gigs of ram in the future too. so what if xp runs better than vista im playing crysis at 30 fps avg on 1980x 1200 and loving it ya i can get more fps with lower res but horrible graphics compared to the 1980x1200. if you dont have a 24 inch and a 19 inch that many more fps with the 8800 GTX

No the new one will be 512MB, that's the distinction. ;)

And as much as I agree with running native res, it pains me to hear someone "loving" Crysis on Medium to Low. I suppose at least you'll play it again in the future on high-very high and it'll be how it's meant to look. I spose that's the catch-22 of running a large monitor.

I'm still using my aging Sony FW900 24" widescreen CRT, so native res isn't really a problem, I just step down a size or so. My ideal res for that monitor is 1920x1200, 85Hz. I haven't taken on the LCD tech yet because of the power required to drive large displays at the native res. I will some day..

Hmm, perhaps that review of the 8800GTS I linked to is bogus then, as it stated the memory was the same as the previous models.

Taking of reviews, a few with Crossfire HD3870's are sprouting up and I can say I'm impressed. Crysis performance is still on the lacking side, but on par with a 8800GTX with other titles. Of course that's two cards against one. I find it unlikely that Nvidia would pin the new 8800GTS higher than the GTX, while cheaper. Then there's supply issues...

Just when I thought my mind was made up!
