I bought the alfa because I've always wanted one :)

The delorians are too expensive to insure, and I don't think work will be happy with me taking at least 2 spaces to park my car :D

...and the totally underpowered engine - an old 2.6 V6 Renault engine that Renault didn't even use back then as it was too old.

...and the fact when they designed the car it was designed to be monocoque. Shame the car bent in the middle, so they had to retrofit a steel chassis on to hold it together. Which made the car considerably heavier that it should have been, making the performance from the crapola engine even worse.

...and the fact all the electrical switchgear was old British Layland junk that constantly broke.

...the fact the guys in Dunmurry (less than 2 miles from where I am now) couldn't build a car to save themselves. Often the dealers had to rebuild large chunks of the cars before they delivered them to the customer.

Not a good car. 20 years on, they're a really bad car.

I'd love to have enough money to buy it, throw away the engine and the elecrics and rebuild the car from the base up...

    *me buys more lottery tickets.*

I make a promise on bit-tech now that if I win the lottery I will start 2 project logs..

    1 - Delorian rebuild
    2 - Home Cinema build.

i think that was after the company folded, i understand the Government gave him a grant to build the factory in ireland.

Also i hear the bodywork is a bugger to keep clean, shows up fingerprints really bad. And the struts holding the doors couldnt handle the weight too well.
Am I right in thinking Lotus had a hand in designing it too?

Hmmm....Lotuses designing the Delorans?! Where did you hear of that BjD?

Looking at the cars that Lotuses make and looking at the Delorans, one would have thought that they were both completely different....However, i'm probably wrong!

Delorans are good, as they are...well...different. personally, i don't really like them that much. But that is my opinion and i don't mean to say that everyone has to agree to it. Everyone has their own opinion...

Lotus designing the Deloran? You sure? :eyebrow:

I remember reading an article about it, I think Lotus just helped tweak the design. i could be wrong though

    Oh....

Has anyone driven a Deloran AND a Lotus car?

I just wonder if it was a chassis that the Lotus did...not the styling...or is it the other way around?
