It's amazing, Apple + intel are really onto a winner now. When the PowerMactels are released... i'm sure they'll start making inroads into markets otherwise dominated by the mighty MS. But back to why I wub my MB!! Portable size + Core Duo power + Parallels + Virtue Desktop + OS X + WinXP = the only computer you'll ever need! Check out my video [MP4 2.3MB] Absolutely awesome Screen 1: Desktop Screen 2: Full screen Entourage mail Screen 3: Full screen (and I mean FULL screen) web browser Screen 4: Full screen WinXP running my XP only program
mbp ***! once the power macs are converted to intel chips, i won't be owning a windows based desktop ever again
I like the look of MBs but... they're a little too..... white for my liking... they seem even more plasticy than ibooks! If I were to get one I'd probably try and go for a MBP or an iMac or something... intel mac minis are absolutely pointless now, the price of them is nowhere near as attractive as it was when the line was launched... now it's just an expensive and small 'puter... nothing more.
Especially since the cheapest one is a core solo. If it was $599 (much better yet $499, but that's probably unrealistic all things considered) for the core *duo* model, I'd be all over it. Nice setup J-Pepper... enjoy it. I quite love my MBP, though it does get insanely hot at times. I think the only time I've heard the fan come on was when I was upgrading the firmware - and considering a software probe was measuring 70c or something on each core, I'm inclined to think that's going beyond "Some surfaces may appear hot". Quiet is great (especially compared to my old laptop... yikes!), but I think it's borderline find-a-table-or-no-kids. If only it were as simple as yanking off a little plastic dust cover... I should probably call Apple about that tomorrow The virtual desktops are great. Still doesn't compare to a separate external screen, but it's incredibly useful.
Not hi-jacking this thread... honestly, but it was only a "I love my xxxx" type thread anyway. While I'm impressed with the new apple/Intel machines so far, and I've always loved Mac-OS, does no one else worry about the whole lack of upgradeability, customisation, and the genreal sort of generic thing? Considering that Apple like us all to think that buying an Apple is the alternative choice, I find it ironic that everyones macs are the same. I'd hate that no matter how good it was.... but I agree... Intel based macs do seem really rather nice.
I won't point out the obvious, honest. (YOU CAN GET THEM IN BLACK NOW!) But I agree really. My friend has a Macbook and I have a 12" Powerbook. While his has the nice glossy screen and it's at least twice as fast, I don't think I'd swap. Having seen it in the flesh, it's not as nice as I'd expected. All that plastic doesn't do it for me at all. I might be old fashioned, but I wub my PB Of course, when I have enough money and I can justify a MBP, I'll be straight down to the new Apple store in Manchester. They have to be the best of both worlds. Having said that, I wouldn't mind something smaller than the 15".
Yeah, I get what you guys means about the 'whiten-ness' of it all. But i'm not a type of person to justify paying £150 more for a colour choice alone so I stuck with the white model. If Apple were going to release a 13" MBP, then I would've held out for one... but as it stands the MB is perfect size for my needs as the 15.2" MBP, although the same size as my out going Powerbook, is too big and expensive when I only need it for light work and browsing. I really can't wait for the Power Mactels to be released... it'll probably be the last computer i'll ever buy (until the time comes to upgrade to faster version!)
Well, I must admit I'm digging my new macbook but at the same time I'm not impressed with the amount of times it's frozen or Apple applications have crashed out. iMovie just died whilst I was playing with it, hadn't even got to the point of plugging the camcorder in. Whilst I can understand programmes crashing when run under rosetta, universal apps, especially ones shipped with the operating system should not suffer from these problems. Perhaps it's just me. It's not happenned as much recently, but I was beginning to get very ticked off.
How upgradeable is a PC anyway? If you think about it if you want to upgrade your CPU 99% of the time you need a new motherboard. The only other thing that you could upgrade on a PC that you cant on a MAC is the GFX which you can on anything but an iMac or a laptop. Everything else is the same upgrade wise. And everyone being the same has its stability and useability advantages.
i also just got my macbook and oh my god im all over this thing it rocks so hard!!!!! the keyboard is awesome, the color rocks, the screen is one of the best ive ever seen. its so freaking FAST!....... then again i put in 2gb ram and a 100gb 7200rpm hard drive over the old 60gb 5400rpm.... big big big speed difference, kicks the snot out of my old single 1.8 g5.
