    Hi,

My dad wants to build a new computer around the i5 2500k CPU.

I was wondering if any one could give me advice on what motherboard and memory to go for as there are so many out there. Nothing too expensive but he wants a board that is good for overclocking.

    Thanks!

I think that ASUS and Gigabyte are well known and reliable motherboards favoured by "clockers". No douby someone will be along shortly to give you a model number.

The i5 2500k CPU is a socket 1155 processor so whatever motherboard you get make sure it has an LGA 1155 socket on it for the CPU.

Forgot to add, dont forget to get some thermal paste for your Dad to use when seating the heatsink/fan onto the CPU. If you get a new heatsink/fan, they often come with the paste pre-applied, might be worth checking?

Ok you should trying being a bit more specific,

    what's your budget?
    Do you just need CPU/RAM/Board
Or do you need a whole Computer? Like Case/PSU/GPU/HDD/CPU/MB/RAM/Cooler etc

if all he wants is a Motherboard/CPU and ram then I'd suggest this

Corsair Vengeance LP ram, 8gb as its dirt cheap http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-...pc3-12800-(1600)-non-ecc-cas-9-9-9-24-xmp-15v

CPU 2500K fully unlocked - pick up the retail one as you get the stock cooler (which although rubbish can be handy and will save you money if your not overclocking to start with-comes with thermal paste applied) http://www.scan.co.uk/products/inte...-33ghz-hd3000-igp-850mhz-6mb-cache-95w-retail

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-...-sata-raid-pcie-30-(x16)-d-sub-dvi-d-hdmi-atx

Good solid board with decent features also has PCIE 3.0 support

Sorry, all he needs is the CPU, motherboard and RAM. He has the case, watercooler SSD etc already.

Not sure on budget, just a decent all round package.

No worries, watercooler? I take it you mean he has the CPU cooler? Ok well then I would go with my above suggestions, unless someone else believes something is much better for the money etc.
