iNCLUDED PICS. hope they will show. If not its my i7. 920 going down to 1.8ghz or even 1.6ghz at times. Then back up again ? I also disabled side stepping and this made no diffrence ? Do you guys like side stepping on or off ?
What mobo you using? In any case, disable ALL power-saving features and manually set the multiplier to 20 if you want it full pelt constantly. However, remember the multiplier only drops if: 1) The machine's idling 2) The CPU is throttling (ie beyond 135W) Try running Prime95, and see if it drops during that. It shouldn't. BTW, why would you want to disable the power-saving features that only work when the machine's idle?
So do i just change the multiplier to exactly 20 ? or 20.00 do i need to change any voltages or anything or jsut the multi ?
Try disabling settings: C1E, SpeedStep. Also check your temperatures in the BIOS or with SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
i also have a motherboard error. it tells me the cpu is running at 82 c. when it should be around the 50s yet cpu temp apps say my cores around 63 ? i know this is a common error in pv2 mobos.
You know you could have cut the picture so that it only shows CPU-Z. - Thanks. I don't have a Core i7, but my vote is with the idle. Make sure Windows is set to High-Performance as power option.
Well, as far as I'm aware (Asus man here), it'll work either way (though for the Asus, 20 changes to 20.0 when you hit enter) - should be an option in the "Manual" settings. Questions to ask: 1) What motherboard? 2) Is your cooler seated properly? As far as I know, power-saving features brings on a straight x12 multiplier, unless the processor's being throttled from excess heat, which would be EIST's job (ie throttling above 135W, or specific temperatures). Unlikely at idle, but just a thought. 3) Have you tried running Prime95, or similar, to make sure the chip runs at the x20 multiplier when it's not idling?
Settings on the P6T Deluxe BIOS if you want a permanent 2.66GHz: AI Tweaker page: AI Tweaker (whatever it's called - the first setting) - Manual BCLK - 133 CPU Ratio - 20.0 C1E Support - Disabled EIST - Disabled CPU Spread Spectrum - Disabled Sppedstep (tm) Tech - Disabled Should all be on there. If not, head straight to the Advanced tab, and check for CPU Configuration. Also, check your temps in Hardware Monitor in the BIOS, just to check the mobo's reporting them OK. If they're that high, check your cooler's mounted properly. Also, the button next to the "Quote" button is the multi-quote button. Click it on every post you want to quote in a thread, and then click any of the "Quote" buttons. It'll stop you double-posting. EDIT - This one ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\/
Cut from the convo. Just noticed temps hitting a max of 100 degrees. The chip's throttling. OP, update your BIOS and re-mount your cooler, just in case.
no new updates avalible. P.s just touchedd the heat sink and its cool ? if it was really thease temps wouldnt it be very hot ?
Maybe, though the fins will always be reasonably cool. Chances are your board is reporting the temps wrong, and since EIST, etc, goes off these temps, it'll throttle the chip. A BIOS update should fix it. You can do it through the BIOS itself. Just stick the ROM from the download link on a USB stick/CD, and head to the Asus EZ-Update screen in the BIOS (I think it's the one just to the left of the save/discard changes screen). It'll do the update, and hopefully your temps will fly down.
**** my fan has cut my finger real bad.............. anyhow how can i update when i have the latest update udner the bios ?
You cant. Have you tried taking the cpu cooler off and putting it back on? Also, how much thermal paste did you use on it? Pics of that would help greatly.
You can downgrade to an earlier BIOS with the ASUS boards. Try the one before the latest BIOS. Also, silly Higson for trying to stop a fan with your finger!
