I had it set at 1.625 volts in the bios. It handled that fine. The next day when I pushed my CPU VTT (QPI volts) up to 1.575 trying to hit 5GHz it fried the voltage regulator circuitry. I have a Classified coming in now In my spare time at work today I lapped my cpu
That is some seriously nice lapping. When I grow a pair (and I'm 40) I might try lapping my cpu. Wasn't too bothered about lapping the cpu waterblock, if that went wrong I could always get another before rebuilding. If I screwed up the CPU I'd be looking at a holiday in the garden instead of abroad. Don't think the wife would be too happy. Anyway, looking forward to seeing the results you get from the Classified, from all accounts it's a beast of a board. Not jealous at all When you do get the classified up and running, I'd love to see what score you can get on the Custom PC benchmark: Link At the moment I'm holding on to 15th place. I just can't seem to get my multitasking score to a reasonable level. Still, I am above a couple of the Benchtec people using LN2 on Core 2's.
im afraid i may break my brand new i7 920, this OCin is way to scary for me, i would have to have someone here with me
I lapped my spare i7 920 prior to selling it, and it was surprisingly easy. Just make sure you do as the above poster did, and tape up the edges. http://www.overclock.net/other-cooling-discussions/290130-lapping-your-cpu-heatsink.html Tutorial there.
Thanks for the link Pookey. I'll give it a good read. I have lapped my cpu blocks etc, It's a situation a bit like ChArMz is with overclocking. He doesn't want to damage his CPU bu overclocking it; which I have no worries about doing and I don't fancy lapping my CPU yet for the same reasons. I think I'll wait until my wifes old Athlon finally gives up the ghost and practice on that first.
Seens as everyone here helped me so much I figured I'd post my final stable OC. Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe V2 CPU: i7 920 Cooling Used: Titan Fenrir + MX-2 Overclocked Speed: 3.8 GHz UnCore Speed (UCLK): 3.6 GHz Baseclock (BCLK): 200 MHz DRAM Speed: 1600 @ 8-8-8-24 1T Turbo Mode: Off Hyper-Threading: On HPET: On Speedstep: On Loadline Calibration: On CPU Voltage: 1.21250 V CPU PLL Voltage: 1.80 V QPI/DRam Voltage: 1.35 V DRam Voltage: 1.66 V IOH Voltage: 1.20 V ICH Voltage: 1.30 V
Just a slight question I have the standard P6T motherboard, is that any good for overlocking? Also I have XMS3 1333 memory
what programs are you guys overclocking ur comps with??? because i thought Bios is the best, but its soo annoying restarting over and over again...
BIOS, yes it's time consuming but you can get a much more stable overclock at the end of it. Just put 2 nights aside to get it done, and read a book while it LinX's for half hour between changing settings
LOL Just glad it helped someone BIOS all the way. As Swift said.. it's very annoying, yes, but almost all windows application for overclocking are useless. In fact that the Turbo V application that comes with the P6T is so flakey it used to crash if I so much as changed anything once I was past 3.5GHz. Annoying as it is... you really need to be using the BIOS.
To save a lot of time waiting for an OS to boot up, temporarily bung a spare drive or make a partition with a bare Vista/XP/7/whatever on as it'll take far less time to reboot from bios. It'll only take half an hour to install, if that, but saves so much time waiting.
I agree with that^. Install some small fast-booting OS on a temporary drive as your overclocking OS, and put the most important OC'ing tools on the desktop or even in the startup folder.
Okay, so I'm looking for a nice simple 3Ghz OC for 24/7 usage This is me: Core i7 920 D0 Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4 6GB OCZ 1333Mhz RAM So, I've downloaded various benchmarking tools, plus realtemp. I've Prime95'ed my stock setup to check temps and ensure it's stable and I'm happy Temps are okay, 33-35 idle and 70-73 load. I have a Fenrir with AS-5 My graphics card came with a free copy of 3Dmark Vantage and I've benchmarked it. Now in terms of overclocking...can I raise my Bclk bit by bit to 150, while leaving everything else on Auto and tweaking nothing else? Or if not, what else do I have to tweak and when!? Cheers!
