    Hi!

Today was a great day! My fiancees Harddisk, an IBM travelstar 20GB had a headcrash... of course, she didn't make any backups of her data.

Does anyone know how much data retreaval might cost? Or were these HDD by any chance faulty so I could theoretically send it in?

    The Model is: IC25N020ATCS04-0

I guess it was built in April 2002...

Cheers for some links or infos...

    Fred

well, from what i've heard, data recovery is possible for those areas not physicaly destroyed, but it's a matter of weighing the extreme cost of recovery with the value you place on the info that was b0rked. Unless you work for the CIA/MI6 or have very deep pockets, and HAVE to have the data back, you're pretty much out of luck...

I have had HD's got sour on me and have still been able to get the important stuff back with Easy Recovery Professional. This will of course only work if the drive till seeks.

Worked on two Seagate drives that would power on, but made some horrible noises. Recovered pretty much everything.
