I had an IBM (Lenovo) think pad and it broke on me. One thing that was salvageable was the DVD writer. Now I have a normal 50pin to 40pin adapter for normal slim line drives but this ibm one seems to have a proprietary connection called "Ultrabay slim" or some nonsense like that. I would like to use this drive for my quite SFF computer but I can not find an adapter for it on the internet. Does anyone have any idea if there is something like this?

Are you sure it's not removable?

AFAIK a lot of ultrabay drive connectors can be unscrewed to reveal a nice normal 50 pin underneath.

Just to post results, the connecter is built right in to the controller board.:wallbash:

Do you still have the laptop?
If so you could trace the cable back to where it connects and you might be able to decipher the pinout. Then if your handy with a soldering iron, make your own adaptor.
