You only need worry about the amount of active memory usage :)

I found a nice program for you to customise the OS called TinkerTool, you can get it at http://www.bresink.de/osx/TinkerTool.html

Its quite good, it enables you to disable the dashboard (something which some people want to do to maximise free ram) and add an extra minimise effect called 'Suck' which is sort of a mix between the two originals.

RTT, what do you mean by 'Active Memory' ?

    Short version:
11MB of free RAM on a unix system is not the same as 11MB free RAM on a Windows system. Don't worry - you're no where near in desperate need for more RAM... but upgrade anyway :D

    Long version:
Used memory on unix systems includes memory that has been reserved for future usage or freed by closed programs or threads. You may only have 11MB of 'free' memory but that's perfectly fine and doesn't mean you need more - because what really matters is how much memory is in active use. If your active memory is aproaching your total RAM capacity, that's when you absolutely need more RAM.

I have 1GB of RAM in my mac and 'only' have 30MB 'free', but in reality i'm only using 360MB of it ;)

All unix systems work this way :thumb:

PS: You can view the breakdown of active/inactive/free memory using the Activity Monitor in Applications/Utilities.
