This was forwarded to me: I think it's a really good idea, especially given yesterdays events

That's fair enough, but I have a mate called Ice .. I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate being the first to find out I'd been involved in some kind of Michael Hutchence-esqe sex game death shocker.

Er, not that I plan to go out like that of course. :worried:

i watched a ************ made for tv movie recently about a plane hijack. the hijacker got hold of the hero d00ds mobile, found out his home phone number, then sent his goons round to kidnap hero d00ds young son as a contingency plan.

this resulted in me removing the names of all the people i care about from my phonebook. you never know when some madman might want to get to your family.

since mr hijacker man would expect the ICE person in my phonebook to be someone close, like my parents or something, he could potentially trace the number and kidnap them.

for lol's sake i have decided to put 'phat' in as my ICE number :V

excuse me while i go antagonize some crazy terrorist mofos, with hilarious consequences xD

So you figure you got more chance to run in a terrorist - who then takes your phone , traces the ICE number and go kidnaps that person- ; Than having a serious accident?

Damn, you need some help, lol.

I have 'home' in my phonebook so I guess people would try that.

As funny as that post was ;) it does actually highlight something that's a real problem. If you haven't already I would seriously advise people to have their parent's (esp.) names on their phones rather than "Mum" and "Dad".

We had someone at work who had their phone stolen from a train station. Until they returned later that day had no idea that their elderly mother had been phoned and told that unless she brought a significant amount of money to the station her son would be killed. Some people out there are truly sick :grr:

Good idea. I would have thought your emergency contact person would naturally be someone who is sensible enough not to be conned with ransom threats.

I just hope the people rescuing me can figure out who "E.T. Phone Home" is.

I have a PIN on mine to switch it on, but if my mobile got stolen and my Mum was to ring my mobile... they could answer it without putting the PIN in. If I had to put a PIN in to answer it I'd give up. I hardly ever get to it before it goes to voicemail anyway.

I'd guess if they had the intelligence to operate your phone then they would know 99

    (on the tangent)

What I don't understand is that Blackberry's can be remotely wiped and locked from the server, so why don't the phone companies have some way of blatting the sim/phone addressbook so they can't be used.

    Insane.

Yeah, couldn't they just force the sim to go into its "PUK" mode...
