i'm running XP SP2 right now on a small maintenance partition before i install Ubuntu 7.04 on the other 130Gb partition, and i'm getting an annoying little quirk with the wireless. the icon on the taskbar has the little red X on it even when i am connected to the internet (including right now).

    how can i fix this?

It's a quirk. I used to get it, too. Are you using the Windows wireless config or the manufacturer's?

Vista seems (to me) to be able to get it's head round whether you're connected or not.

Might be you have multiple network adapters showing up in the taskbar. If you've got a disconnected but enabled ethernet port, that could well be the red X. Though considering how long you've been around here, I'm sure you've thought of that already. In which case I'll go with Kenco's approach here, and say it's a quirk and you'll just have to live with it.
