Here is the setup so far:

    Comp1

    IP: 192.168.0.1 / 255.255.255.0 (set manually)
NIC1: goes to cable modem (ip assigned by DCHP) and shared
    NIC2: goes to comp2
    Workgroup: Local
    OS: XP pro sp2

    Comp2

    IP: 192.168.0.2 / 255.255.255.0 (set manually)
    NIC1 - goes to comp1
    Workgroup: Local
    OS: XP pro sp2

At the moment Comp1 can access the internet fine, but Comp2 cannot access the internet via ICS.
All firewalls (xp and sygate) are turned off.
Both computers can ping each others ip fine.
Comp1 can see Comp2's shared files and folders, but Comp2 cannot see Comp1's shared files and folders.
Both can see each other and themselves in workgroup computers.

Maybe related; If I set Comp2 to obtain IP address automatically I get the error 'limited or no connectivity'

Any ideas, Not greatly fussed about getting files and folder sharing to work but really need ICS to work.

    Thanks for your time.

This is a very simple network connection. The best thing to do would be to use the xp home network setup wizard with one computer being the host. If you want you can set the ip's to be static later.

Within the wizard you'll have the chance to turn on file and printer sharing.

    Good luck!

Have tried the wizard a few times but no luck. Most guides advise to do it manually.

Have you set the DNS servers IP manually?? You need to do that in order for the second computer to resolve URLs into IPs!

And the Default Gateway on the second computer should be set to the first computers IP.

You can normally find your ISPs DNS server IPs on their website!

This would be what you set your second com to for Blueyonder as an example :-

    IP :- 192.168.0.2
    Subnet mask :- 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway :- 192.168.0.1

    Primary DNS :- 193.38.113.3
    Secondary DNS :- 194.117.157.4

    Hope this helps!
