I've got two P.c.'s both can connect to the internet First Pc is running Windows Xp Second Pc Is running Windows 98SE first pc can connect to irc, msn messenger etc no problem second Pc can connect to the www but can not connect to irc or msn messenger second pc is connected to the first by a RJ45 crossover cable (direct connection network card to network card) second pc's settings are address : 192.168.0.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 wins configuration is disabled gateway is 192.168.0.1 DNS server search order is : 192.168.0.1 So does anyone know where i've gone wrong because as I said both CAN connect to google etc but 98SE machine can not connect to irc servers etc. Neither is running a firewall because I switched off sygate until I can get this fixed Edit : Spelling
how is the winXP machine connected to the internet? From the 98 machines IP, it doesnt look like you are using windows ICS. Did you set the TCP/IP configuration yourself? You should set the 98 machine to obtain an IP address automatically.
The Xp machine is connecting to the Internet via an ADSL bt broadband modem plugged into a usb port to set it up I ran the setup a home network wizard on xp. on 98 it would'nt work so I set it up manually ok I just set it to obtain IP automatically and then rebooted but theres no change IRC still says that its connecting to server then connectin timed out Edit : putting results of ip obtained automatically.
yea exactly the same as before can surf the web etc just can not connect to other servers I.E. irc, seti, msn messenger
xp firewall is'nt on I don't know about emails because I use Hotmail and I don't know any ftp site s to attempt to connect to
