Couple of questions: 1. Maximum length of IDE Cable? 2. If you had two machine's and they had a male connector both on the chassis, could you then use a female-female ide cable to make them work? (i.e. Having a case full of HDD but having a selctor to select which drive you like to boot) 3. Maximum number of connectors on a cable with the info you will only be using one device at a time? Many Thanks Fox
1) about 50cm 2) perfectly possible, but only max 50cm controller to drive 3) as many as you want A cheap SCSI would be a good alternative, the max cable length for LVD is about 12m IIRC.
usb2.0 is always a good option, if ur not doing raid, not that its faster then scsi in the first place, its not at all, but its easy, and a ide drive > usb2.0 converter can cost you all of 15~20 USD...., plus usb hubs and such are easy and usb has a maximum length of well, ive never encountered a usb cable that was too long?, ive had a 20 footer, worked fine
