    not a lot in reality.
    The theoretical bandwidth limit of the interface is 150MB/s or 300MB/s but the drives aren't mechanically capable of getting anywhere near that - probably ~60MB/s in continuous transfer is what they actually achieve.

    One of your disks has error that has to be fixed every time the computer is restarted? Write down the drive letter and find which hard drive is causing the problem. Take any unnecessarily data off and go into the command prompt and run "CHKDSK /F" on the damaged drive*. Do not dismount the drive and run the check after restarting windows. Defrag the drive when the errors are fixed.

    If you hear any unusual ticking sounds from the drive get all the data off and stop using it. Western Digital hard drives will make an odd ticking sound when their about to die and Maxtor's will abruptly stop being recognized by Windows taking the data with it.

    *(Assuming C: is damaged)

    Start -> Run... -> cmd
    C:\Documents and Settings\You>CHKDSK /F
    (restart computer and fix errors)
    C:\Documents and Settings\You>CHKDSK /V
    (scans for errors only)

    If damaged sectors are found and not fixed:
    C:\Documents and Settinsg\You>CHKDSK /R

    I very much doubt it's that much cheaper, that it's not worthwhile getting the SATA II drive, over the older SATA drive?
    Whilst you might not be able to use the full speed of the SATA II drive, that doesn't mean it's not worth getting over the standard/older SATA drive.

    When there's only a couple of £'s/$'s (or whatever currency) between them... I personally always opt for the newer technology... whatever component it is (i.e. HDD, optical drive, soundcard, graphics card) :idea:
