try waiting for that nano-itx board to come out... might make this project a lot easier...

    I have a feeling 110w psu isn't enough, get at least 400....

Eaglespirit - Thanks for the input. I had several designs for 'slots' to let air in. Yours is probably better than any I had, but like you say, the look of a perfect sphere is what I'm after. I even thought about doing without a CD, to save the slot at the front!

ngk - The sphere will be an inch or so off the deck. This should be enough to let air out. I have space if needed for another fan above the rad - a push-pull setup.

sickskater6911 - The software I use is Rhino3D, but 3dMax or autocad would work as well.

STellY - I'm VERY interested to see where nano-itx goes. Much more for the mini server type thing though. I reckon you could do a 150mm sphere with one of them!! Still want to do this though, much higher spec.

HQ08-Modder - Yep, me too! Its something I am worried about. Now heres my thinking. I've seen similar spec-ed setups running in Shuttle cases off 175W PSUs. I've got a laptop CD (less than regular) and that pump (MORE than a fan, about 6W tick over).

It might work, especially if I delay the boot until the pump has started up (when it uses most juice). If it isn't enough, I would rather go with 2 of the 110W boards than use a regular PSU. ATX PSU just aint going to fit. One should be enough if I went for a laptop HD too, but thats going to damage my nice performance.

I think one of the biggest challenges will be cables and hoses. Worst case I can live with a 300mm sphere, that would give me much more room to work with AND I know where to get them :) Would also allow for a bigger res. That 90mm ball only holds about .25 litre. More for show than function.

do you have the right tools to make holes in the glass? I think it's quite hard to make the cd slot and holes for the cables wihtout damaging the other glass.

If you make a hole on the top and plece the rad there instead? Then you have place for the cd in the bottom. You can also move the mobo connectors to the bottom. Then you don't need any holes on the side. But there can be quite difficult to find space for the radiator on the top i think.

I made my pic in 3dsmax

:hehe: i agree with you man onboard video sucks... but try telling that to a customer who really buys into what the liar behind the counter says .. they'll cut ur throat cause you aint behind a counter too! (freakin weird people at computer shows) :eyebrow:

 Good idea!! i like the sphere.. so its going to be about an inch off the desk?? you're making some sort of stand then?? Make sure the stand blocks where you took the sphere apart to get the stuff in. 110W psu?? dont think thats enuf to run ur stuff..
The way you show it.. there is alot of effort put forth so that it is showing off the the motherboard, you could possibly do some clear hard drive and clear cd mods to show off the insides of them too, and at that maybe even the water pump! Good luck with this one.
Edit: oh.. two!!!! 110W psu's.... thatll prob work fine!
Edit2: ... why not have a couple of those ball water res. ? 3 or4 oughta do it, you could put them in different places too. (Physically this works out in my head but i know nothing about water cooling.. so you'd have to figure that out)

Glass? Its acrylic, but I am expecting many hours with dremel, needle files and wet-n-dry to get the front slot right. Its the only really visible cut though. The lid/cap and i/o panel will be around the back.

Rhino is similar to 3dsmax, but uses nurbs!? Has a better built in renderer too :D

Yeh I know :( The 845GE chipset's graphics (Intel® Extreme Graphics haha!) are never going to touch a half decent graphics card for performance. I have used similar and its OK - honest!

I don't play games and have my dually for 3d graphics stuff. I will just have to live with it. This machine will live downstairs and will mostly be for web/mail etc plus MSOffice & adobe stuff. Oh and for looks ;)
