Hello guys... Now I got 6 Internal HDs and 2 External = 7 TB! ALL FULL! Need to get bigger HD for more data. see i want to change to compact computers and low power and mostly going to use laptop... but the problem i want to assess the 7tb data so how that could happen ? should i look for new motherboard and new hardware ? but buying all that space external usb drive is not an option because it will be very expansive to get rid of those and buy again .. thanks
Something like this looks like being ideal for you. It connects through eSATA and is powered from the mains but there is plenty of space for your current HDD's and more.
Yup I agree, Any enclosure that supports multiple HDD, and connect to the computer via eSATA, for the same speed as if they were inside your computer.
HP Micro server any one? http://www.ebuyer.com/253305-hp-proliant-athlon-ii-neo-n36l-microserver-100-cashback-633724-421 with cashback its 130 pounds takes 4 HDDs and can fit another 2 with adaptor. add an controller and you can add 4 2.5" drives on top.
Buy big disk, phase out the small ones. It might be cheaper than getting a bunch of enclosures and will be less confusing/easier to organize And don't forget to backup
Link not working But Most of them are single drive Hm I don't think I can get cash back here and it will be expansive to me The problem is the small ones are 2 only ... rest are 1tb and 2tb... so like even it will come to end at the end
The site has gone down for maintenance, what a pain! It was a 7 or 8 bay storage tower but it wasn't cheap. Around £170 I think, but you can put in all your internal drives now without buying loads of new ones.
1. make it a JBOD, they will see both drives 2. I've heard they've started making 4Tb external drives (and now I have a boner)
CK repeat after me: I DO NOT NEED 7TB OF PORN. I WILL DELETE SOME. Cheapest and most sensible option!!
No one needs to **** that much. No one. Either that or you're some sort of porn connoisseur. How do you catalogue it, Sir? By age, angle or position? I imagine your dinner conversations go something along the lines of "As you can see in this clip from 1976, shot with a Super8 during a dry autumn day about 5:30pm by my estimation of the vignetting, she is holding it with her left hand while... ....it was normal to embrace body hair back then and the men often sported beards... "
collect all the porn! while poking around on the subject (of storage, not porn), i came across THIS little fella. too bad the price is way to high for what your getting. but if something like that could be had in the $130-150 range id probably get one myself.
I've looked at that option too. I think it would be better to get an old case and fit a bunch of 3.5" cages inside it with a PSU. Or fit it with these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816215177 and then these in the back Or if I had the cash (infinaband/multilane sata) I've even looked at building a custom hot-swap enclosure but the only backplanes I could find were $35 each (1 per drive)....I've thought about this many times (I even have a rough total of just the equipment needed for a custom external enclosure) I've also looked at getting a 5.25" case made for CD copying and fitting those hotswap bays into that ....I've thought about this many times
yeah i deleted the other type of data ( games- movies-softwares-pics ) to free up space for porn now the 7TB ARE porn ) The problem i don't watch them at all to be honest.. just keeping them lol the thing i don't **** that much lol ... and i don't watch the porn... it's just for keeping sack... And HD now maybe but yeah liltte much no nice idea but i think the case and bays is not important.. those mini cards convert them external without problems in speed and settable ?
Just move ur PC to an Antec case. you would not belive how many HDD bays they have standard! The dark fleet 85 even has some hotswap bays already build in! (has 3 adaptor plates where you connect the cables on the inside and then just slot the drive into the bay, no enclosure needed)
Whilst not cheap (though cheap for what they are - it is kind of reflected in the build quality, though they're also sold more expensively under a few different brands), these are what i've used for a couple of years & they work perfectly well. The one limitation is that, if you use the free esata card, you're ltd to 1.5TB drives in the 1st trays for each of the channels - 1st & 5th ones up - but the rest are certainly happy with 2TB ones. Oh &, again using the free card, it's worthwhile updating the f/w & downloading the latest driver & software from the sil site as it then plays more readily with Win7.
I'm pretty sure they just turn Sata into eSata and that's it (I think). The lowest one is multilane, so it's like haveing 4 eSata cables all in one connection/cable
