I'm going to be buying a new case soon... and I'm looking for one which has good power.. If I can't find a good case with a reliable PSU included, I'll probably end up buying a psu and case seperately. But for now, I'm curious as to know what are the optimal amps per rail. Anyone want to suggest? PS: I'm planning on running the following: NF7 mobo, 2500+ barton (will try to OC to 3000-3200+ speeds), 512MB of geil pc3200 ram in dual channel, 1x CD-ROM(48x), 1x CD-RW(48x), 1x Maxtor 80gb 7200rpm ata133, Probably about 3-6 case fans, and an evga 5900SE(planning on overclocking it), and maybe another HD some day
This question has been answered time and time again in these forums (not necessarily the electronics one). Use the search function please.
check out the main bit-tech page as I'm fairly sure they must have reviewed some power supplies in the past. Tom's Hardware has done loads of reviews of different PSUs - have a look there.
Jeez, if yr not gonna actually try and help the guy, then why ever bother???? 'Net Etiquette has gone right out the window.... Most of the higher end supplies tend to have ratings of around 30A on the main three rails. I have seen a few with 40-50A on the 5v and 3.3v rails. Hope that helps see, kt3946, that wouldnt have been too hard........
Yes...yes El_JimBob. However, I did say previously that telling someone to do a 'search' isn't being hypocritical. I did however, fail to provide a link to a thread which already handled this, and for that I concede. However, he would be better off still searching the forum instead of trying to have his question answered because there are so many variables that define what is a 'good' power supply for anyone's particular situation. Sure, you can go ahead and just quote some major overkill numbers, but then again, I'm sure this guy doesn't want to spend $200 on a PS either. So again, I am going to suggest you do a search, and read through some of the threads which *really do* thrououghly cover this topic. Here's a start for ya: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=52587 http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=51323 http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=52105 One of them's even your *own* thread El_Jimbob.... http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=51084
Well... considering the fact that the search wasn't working at the time of me posting this was the main reason I asked this question, I have to say the search wasn't working.
Funny, I haven't had *any* problems using the search function. In fact that's how I came up with the answer previously.???? Hmmm....
