ok well i use my floppy drive quite a bit for school mostly, but ya even with drivers and stuff (sata which i doubt ill ever use but ya) i may not have room for the floppy drive since my psone lcd's pcb may be in the way so ya how can i mount it and still look nice? Maybe velcro it to the outside of my case? and then uhh bring a floppy drive cable and the power connector through a pci slot? lol i could mount it internally but it would be a hassle for my school stuff, id have to open the case a bunch so how can i do this? also i could solve this problem easily. If i use a usb floppy drive (external of course) could i still use it for boot discs during startup? or will it not work? like can i load sata drivers through it and all that jazz?
Whatever the "gurus" say, the floppy is NOT dead. Don't be ashamed that you still use it. If you don't want it installed permanently feed an internal cable and a power connection to a rear I/O bracket. You can mod one of the blanks that came with the case. Cut the openings into the bracket and liberally apply epoxy until the connectors stay in place. You may have to slaughter an old floppy cable and PSU to get the matching connectors for the outside cable.
an iluminated plexi case to go round your floppy drive, and use a round IDE cable with power to make it look better, as opposed to a flat IDe which prolly wouldnt look good outside the case.
I would flame here... but I'll refrain. Why not just get a USB floppy, if you *really* need one? Oh...you thought of that. Well... some comps let you boot from it, some don't. check your BIOS. But let me know when you need to boot off a floppy disk.
and for flashing ure mobo bios and video card bios, floppies are nice man i may just have to use our usb one though, cuz i just dont have room for it
Only if your drives are actually RAIDed or on certain chipsets. Most new chipsets don't need the driver disk for a single-disk install.
