    Hi,

recently every time IE opens a small yellow icon appears in the bottom task bar & when the mouse pointer passes over it opens a window as per attached scan below but, I can do nothing with it, click on it & it disappears

Anybody knows what it is for or why it happens?.

looks like a problem with the google toolbar updater, remove the google toolbar and updater, via programs and features.

if you use google toolbar you can reinstall it later.

That's a UAC prompt ..and I guess it's going away as your security settings are set not to require user/pass when it's needed. One assumes it's updating the toolbar in the background (but multiple times?)

Do as Rich says.. uninstall it :)

i'd run a malware scan, If you haven't already, download malwarebytes anti-malware from here run a quick scan, if nothing found reset internet explorer.

    Thanx again,

run the free one, found 4 Trojans which I removed & the rest 2-3 dozen says optional.

    The popup still occurs.

    How do I reset IE?

click the cog on top right of ie, select internet options, select the advanced tab, you should see at the bottom of that tab a reset button

if you didn't remove the optional ones as well, run the scan again, and remove the optional ones as well

The Reset says only use this if browser is in unusable state.

I am a bit concerned to delete the optionals that I do not know anything about them. Would it be like the sledge hammer on a mouse?

Reinstall Windows. If you've had malware down it's the quickest and easiest way to make sure it's clean. And throw in an upgrade to 8.1 while you're at it :)

I'd remove all the "optional" ones too.. they're probably all bad / click tracking / etc things.

I am in a real fix.

In stupidity I used the sledge hammer & removed all from malaware.

Now IE does not open any thing. See scans below.

Firewall has not restrictions from what I can see.

EDIT:- In the winXP of my dual boot IE works OK, the IE problem is in win8.
