The thing thats always annoyed me about IE is popups every couple of mins. Firefox does a great job of preventing these, so unless thats changed, it'll still be firefox for me.

I would have completely removed IE from my machine ages ago if it weren't for the few websites i use that require it. For security reasons, sounds like a good move from microsoft to make it less integrated.

Why make outlook integrated, i find it so much easier to open a web page and sign into my hotmail account which i've had for about 6 yrs. I aint changing and i aint using outlook, i dunno how it works lol.

So if IE7 isnt being integrated, Id like to know if this mean we will be able to access the Windows Update site through other browsers?

Sounds like a good plan, except for more integration of outlook express.

As an aside, do you need IE installed to run the IE emulator extension for FF?

Firefox not FireFox. Bah! (Or Fx for short... NOT FF!)

Vista downloads updates through a standalone updater program IIRC. Also, the statement that "IE7 will be uninstallable" looks at first glance like its incapable of being installed :p

You can do that already. Just install the IE Tab extension and you will be able to update widows with Firefox.

    edit
I am editing this because I have realized that it has been said already. sorry, my bad.

I dont like the fact that windows mail is integrated. That'll be a pain in the arse, but i forsee a downfall of MS as a major market player in the future if this comes into play. Indeed, it will be installed as default so people will still use it, as default, but seeing as the internet is now probably becoming such a portal to the world that, like the latest TWiT podcast (47) said: the OS is just becoming the back-end neglected part compared to the browser and websites in future. That's why investing in google makes so much more sense and why MS is running scared.

Auto Patcher XP: XP Patches downloaded via Bit torrent. That way you can keep em and integrate them into an XP disk too.

You don't have to go to the site to get updates... what do you think that tray icon is all about?

Bindi's idea is nice though. Maybe I should give it a try...

Hmm... outlook. Switched to T-bird a while back and haven't looked back. It's built in spam filter is ten times as effective as some other paid software I was trying for OE. As long as it's not integrated into the shell like explorer currently is, I don't care.

The summary on the main page seems a bit, err... off, though. Uninstallable? I think not.

As i wrote last week, it's all part of a conspiricy theory to keep crippled or microsoft-ize web applications so that google and all those other web apps stop making people care less about windows!

The new functionality added in terms of technology brings IE7 up to the level that Firefox and others are already at. It's in MS interest not to make it too good or web apps my advance so fast the operating system hardly matters any more.

Dont use outlook, dont use IE, dont use most of the windows installed things. They need to thin windows out for people who dont want all that wasted space.

I for one, can't wait until Windows Vista with IE7 comes out. It doesn't really bother me if it's not integrated as much, although it may mean missing out on features such as direct connection with local Windows apps :(.
