I'm sure that a lot of us saw the news about a deliberately-started house fire that claimed the lives of six children from the same family. The parents made a really emotional appeal on TV asking for help in finding who did it. Well....... those parents have now been charged with murder. I'm struggling to find the words. SCUM is wholly inadequate, if guilty. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-18261680
Luckily we don't have the death penalty in the Uk, they are still innocent and I wouldn't make such a rash judgement on such a thin article.
I agree with Longweight, we only get the details from papers and TV, something can me missed or mis reported/ This is a very touchy case, for parents to be part of the death of so many children bathels me......but I also don't disbelieve
First time I read through I thought Kenny was a bit fast on the trigger, but as he said, he did say if guilty. Sadly even if found guilty, I don't trust the UK (or any other) legal system enough to say I'd be ok handing out that kinda punishment.
I admire your commitment to proper English, but in this case you really can drop the 'th' and use 'ff' instead Should be an interesting case, can't really figure the mindset it would take to deliberately kill six of your own children. Obvious first impression is that the murder charge will get changed to manslaughter but they initially charge murder because they haven't established intent yet. Most people with a fair understanding of the legal system will probably acknowledge the flaws in it.
Pants! (more than a few of the grandparent in laws home made wine) I know first reaction (was mine) is they had so many kids, obviously for benefits, but things aren't always so black and white but again, society is creating some scarey people and sick things are happening (zombie guy in America)
I just don't see the motive. If they live a life of benefit claims then they've just kissed goodbye to a stack of child support payments. I presume there's no trauma benefit that they could think they could claim, is there? And even if you can put kids on life assurance policies I somehow doubt they had six kids on a policy. Be interesting to hear the outcome.
Im not really sure how, why, what when.... It can't of been deliberate... can it?? I just can't understand anything necessary that would result in the murder of your children I need to hear more before i say anything about it.
Strange, I thought the husbands mistress was originally accused of starting the fire- now they think the parents are to blame; curious indeed...
Surprised this wasn't another of Dwarfer's troll threads. No evidence for us to go on yet so I have nothing to say about the parents, but I will say I'd hate to live in any country with a death penalty.
Innocent until proven guilty. Also, the death penalty is for the Middle Ages, not 21st century. The state always looks worse than the criminal when it takes the life of another human being.
Have you never seen how it's done in the US? On Death Row indefinitely (a form of torture btw) and then put to sleep or electrocuted, or shot by firing squad in some states like Utah. It's completely inhumane and no government should ever have the ability, in principle, to end the life of another human without its consent (as a form of punishment for crimes - war is different). All it is is vengeance. That's it. It doesn't deter people from committing crimes, and doesn't help the situation. I'm glad most of the world is moving away from it.
My thoughts vary on the subject, while I agree that it's inhumane, and somewhat torturous; in some very, very, exceptionally rare circumstances I can see where it's applicable, such as a mass murderer with almost certain repeat offense chances and no previous attempts at re-education or psychiatric help having assisted at all. Even then, it should be something kinder than holding them in a cell knowing they're going to die. Slip poison into the food if needs be, but having them live waiting for their end is a form of torture, at best, let alone the actual way it pans out at the end.
