    If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be?

    John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly, Freddie Mercury? Or someone else?

    This Day in Music are carrying out a world-wide survey to see which dead rock stars people would want to see again - for one night only!

    Who would you pick? You can see a full list and vote on

    John Lennon --because someone's got to rescue the crap that Paul's been turning out recently;

    Jimi Hendrix --best guitar hero ever --and he was not even at his full potential yet;

    Elvis --he lives already.

    Kurt Kobain --no. Some people are self-destructive beyond rescuing. I mean, he married Courtney Love, FFS!

    Buddy Holly --like Jimi Hendrix, the best was yet to come.

    Freddie Mercury --because I liked him. And because it would annoy thousands of people. :)

    Most of all, I would bring them back to life to show those self-deluded talentless narcissistic twats that audition for the X-Factor why they should just shut up, f*** off and apply for a job at the local Macdonalds.

    Dimebag, Cliff Burton (although we might not've seen Justice, or any of the new stuff from 'tallica if he was still around). That, or the default answer of Hendrix.

    Question is though, if he had lived for a bit longer would his stuff have been worth listening to? His later work was already moving off the boil as it was, so we might've just ended up with a distinctly "meh" artist who started off well.

    It's got to be Hendrix.

    There are only a few musicians/bands/singers that I am able to listen to on a regular basis and not get sick of.

    (although I made a horrible mistake of using All along the watchtowers as an alarm a while back and it made me hate the song :( Started listening to it again recently though and all seems to be back to normal :D)

    There is no possible way I could agree with that statement more emphatically than I do already. Give that man a coconut!

    I've been hearing about McCartney for over a week now because of the show he did for 400th birthday of Québec

    I'd go for Hendrix so that he could take guitar playing farther then he did while he lived.

    I agree with Nexxo about Kurt Cobain though, but I would still like him to be alive again.

    Hendrix, because of his interesting guitar playing.
    Not a fan of any of them however.

    Hendrix would be good to see as he was just really getting into his stride and probably had some much more poignant work left to come (although All Along the Watchtower and Little Wing are two stunning pieces).

    Buddy Holly is a guilty pleasure of mine and died far too young before he got a chance to mature and experiment musically.

    Lennon is an obvious choice too really as I'm a massive Beatles fan, although I'm not sure how long it would have taken them to reunite had he not died- and of course, you'd need to bring Harrison back too for a Beatles gig...and if we were bringing Harrison back, why not do Orbison at the same time and make another Traveling Wilburys album? ;)

    SRV was a great guitarist and another one who suffered an untimely death, although I can't see him having much of an impact if he were still alive.

    Johnny Cash got more than enough mileage and although he was a great musician (and a great guy), I wouldn't bring him back.

    In conclusion, I can't really pick one and there's a lot more musicians on the list that I respect, or at least appreciate.

    Cliff Burton, Freddie Mercury, Kurt Cobain, Dimebag Darrell, the list goes on.

    Cliff- Awesome bassist, quality sound. Would have definately been interesting as to how the albums would have panned out were he still alive...

    Freddie- No-one can beat that voice. Can turn any song, or indeed song matter into gold-dust! Fat-Bottomed Girls? I Like To Ride My Bicycle? Bizarre, but awesome.

    Kurt- One of the most creative songwriters ever, shame he topped hisself.

    Dimebag- One of the best guitar players I have ever had the pleasure to listen to live.
