No matt my sense of smell has not been affected for the worse as far as I can tell. In fact certain foods, fried bacon, a hamburger, fish and chips are now smell even more appealing. I am not sure if that means my sense of smell has been heightened or the fact that as I can no longer eat the foods I really loved in the past makes these foods smell even more attractive.

But your valid point about sense of taste and smell being connected is something that before reading your post had not occurred to me. And it should have as I was certainly aware of the connection and I have done hours and hours of research on other aspects of the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy since my treatment foe squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsil. I must look into why of if there has been any effect on my sense of smell. Thanks.

Taste or smell, these 2 let me enjoy eating too much
The others would cause me to lose a lot of my hobbies and enjoyments that make me who I am

Direction. Mine has lain unused since I bought a Sat Nav, which I follow blindly though fords, streams, rivers, ponds, ploughed fields, school playgrounds and live fire ranges.

I can attest that as you lose senses others get sharper. I get by on hearing/smell a lot more than normal with one eye down. I took blindfighting when I studied martial arts, but this is another level of attention that you have to pay. As you lose sight, your hearing sharpens as you'd expect, but I didn't think about how my sense of smell would work-or how important it is. I know people by smell-and can tell interesting things about them oftentimes. I hate it. Foods are overpowering a lot of the time-the smell, not the taste. But I can tell you where the dog is, or what part of the yard I'm in, or if the vehicle that just passed is running right by a combination of smell and sound now. It's really odd.

Before any of you say it, it is NOT fun.

    Probably Smell

Ain't been able to smell properly for years anyway, so that might as well save the rest.

One of them things "when i have enough money I'll have that fixed"

Smell: something has to be very pungent for me to notice it. Was on some medication from the doctors a few months back to try and sort it, but it didn't do a thing.

Only time I've been able to smell things was, ironically, when I had quite a bad cold. I think I put a bit too much Otrivine up my nose, but... I could smell things I'd never noticed before. Oh, and I noticed garlic in food. A lot.

Oh, BTW-losing the sense of touch is a REALLY bad thing. My hands are always a mess of cuts, bruises, broken fingers and blood blisters. My feet keep ulcers. I tear stuff out of socket and barely notice. What I do feel is generalized pains-I think my leg hurts, but I'm not really sure-the pain is that bad.

And if you think that's bearable, just wait till it starts affecting if you know to pee or not.
