<+Sim0n> RR5, you could put "thanks to Sim0n" in there [for ping delay]
If you are using a custom theme to change your desktop icons, and you notice windows changing them back to the default for xp when you restart or first power on, I may have come up with a fix.

    Please excuse the huge post.

    bear with me.

Apply your theme, goto start > run > and type regedit and press enter.

    Find this location

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-106

    9-A2D8-08002B30309D}\DefaultIcon

And any other location that has your custom icon listed in your custom theme file.

Now right click the defaulticon key, and export it to the desktop. What you are doing is

taking the key that's using your custom icon and sending it to the desktop. You'll need to

do this for every custom icon. In my case, I had changed My Computer and Recycle Bin so I

    had to export two keys.

Now you'll have to open each reg file by right clicking it and chosing edit. You'll want to

open the other files in the same way, and copy all the text starting with the [ and the last

character. Copy this and paste it on a new line in the first reg file you opened.

Now that you have one reg file with all the keys and values for your custom icons, you'll

need a way to make windows apply this on boot. I found that simply making windows run this

    file on boot didnt work.

So you'll have to open notepad, and type this into it: dont add anything in
    ping 1.2.3.44 -n 1 -w 8000
    your regfile.reg

Save it as something.bat, put it in your startup folder on the start menu and it should work.

That's a very strange solution. What's the ping for? is that to create a delay or something?

Anyway I have the same problem only Windows reverts my entire theme to the windows classic theme occasionally. It happens about once every 10 boots.

Mine does that too, another boot always sorts it though.

I guess my xp was being unique all on its own. Now I think it's not doing it any longer since my GeForce 3 died and I'm using a crappy 4mb 2x AGP card until I can get a newer video card.
