If you own a 24 inch display or thinking of buying one hold fire check this out http://hexus.net/tech/news/displays/63173-dell-announces-new-24-inch-ultrasharp-ultra-hd-monitor/ http://dcse.dell.com/us/en/gen/peripherals/dell-up2414q/pd.aspx?refid=dell-up2414q&s=gen Also if it come in at £1059 its worth a look
It'd be hard to step down from a 30" panel to that, even if the increased pixel density is a nice touch.
I am using a 27" 2560x1440 so for me a drop in size would be hard as well but if all your use to is a 24" then it worth a look
That's still a pretty penny. Amazing pixel density though. About time PC displays caught up with smartphones!
There is going to be a cheaper 28" 4K monitor which might make the step down from a 30" more palatable.
I am awaiting Asus 39" 4k and I am there, unless of course they have rubbish connectivity like the Asus 32" 4K. 24 is probably too small for windows.
We've just got official word from Dell about the pricing and availability of the UltraSharp UP2414Q: it will be available globally on 16 December, starting at £1,059.
I suspect the monitor I currently have is the last monitor I'll ever buy. After this its Oculus rift all the way.
Beat me to the punch sharpethunder! It is expensive but it's also a lot cheaper than I was expecting. Hopefully this means 4K monitors will start getting much cheaper.
Paid more than twice that for mine. 24 is too small.... 4k is nice, but couldn't step down from 30 inch... And 16:9 just annoys me unless it was much, much bigger. I hope this paves the way for sub 3k 30 inch 4k screens
It'll be lovely once it becomes standard (and it will), but I think a 24in display is a little bit too small to pay such a premium on extra resolution. If you're paying that much you might as well go all out and get (or wait for) a 27/30in model even if it is a bit more expensive. That said, it's probably perfect for some people.
Agree with this. At the moment I'd rather go for a bigger lower res display for half the cash. Also, at 24" its hardly worth having 4k resolution, and then having to shell out a grand on GPUs just to run it at the panels native res.
What I want to know is how well will, third party non microsoft applications scale on these screens? The Windows gui itself might fair ok at this PPI but other programs probably won't. Which is why I would prefer to have a 30" plus screen for this res. (I could be wrong and everything could work and look amazing on it though) The price is impressive given that other 4k screens were going for what, 3-5k?
I'll stick with my £250-ish 2412M for the moment... And any apps that don;t scale well [or at all] with higher DPIs [which is most of them] are going be pretty much unusable...
Is there any news on the 28" 4K monitor from Dell yet. If it does come in at under $1000, it could be a great buy. TN panel though?
or three used 3007WFP-HCs and have some change left over for a new pair of specs (or a neck extension)
