On battle bots flame weapons, or on home built jet engines made with turbos.

What sort of circuit could be used for ignition?

Most home build jet engines use spark plugs and ignition coils from cars.

Or you can get a similar spark igniter from old gas cookers or gas fires, some are battery-driven.

The spark from a BBQ Igniter might not be hot enough to ignite gasoline, but atleast you don't need a power source :) .

Probably the easyest/cheapest way - get a cheap CCFL light with inverter form ebuyer (cost about 2 quid..) Im sure you can figure out how to get a nice spark from the 1.8kv output :)

Might be a good idea if trying that to stick the inverter inside a metal box.. sometimes they explode when used or there intended purpose.. so with this :worried:

To get a good spark you need a peak voltage about 1.1kv/mm of gap. Rms voltage can be quite a bit lower..

Sparks are good ignightors because they heat the air a lot - far excess of the flash point of oils.. for a very short time,
