and UCL has a contract with Apple to get £250 off the retail price.

    Awesomenesssss.

Now I just have to get hold of iLife06 and I'll be a happy(er) bunny. :)

I promise pics when I get it.

UCL = Uni Collage London, yes

I dont care about speed or whatever, I just want an intel processor so as I can install WinXP if need be alongside OSX.

It hasnt been ordered yet, it'll be at least a few weeks before that goes through thanks to the beurocracy (sp?) at UCL.

Not just UCL, its a general Higher Education Discount.

Same as you may know your uni has a site licence for Office, which may include Office for mac if your lucky (I know our campus agreement does)

Have a word with your IT Support guys, they will know the score.

Not Tiger X86 on an Intel PC, WinXP on an Apple. It is possible, it has been done.

Atomic - yea, the contract is under the educational discount. The IT guys here dont like Macs though, and im having a hell of a job convincing them I dont want a Dell.

Only OS's that support EFI will install on the MacBook Pro, so you'll need to wait for Windows Vista. Don't worry I'm also on the bandwagon.

Why buy a Mac to run Windows? Thats like putting a minicooper-engine in a Porsche.

But good luck with your MacBook! I'm gonna wait a year before switching to the intel-macs. Wanna weight to see how good they really are.

Can we do without the windows insults for once just once.
To answer your question GAMES and I really wouldn't call Vista a mini cooper engine.
Another thing don't you think having a mobile ATI X1600 without any decent games is a little waste.

"I have a dream that one day this community will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all computers are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the blue forums of Bit-Tech the sons of OSX and the sons of Windows XP will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mac Intel computers, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that our members will one day live in a world where they will not be judged by the make of their computer but by the content of their character. I have a dream today."

    Dreaming on...

Can we ban you for being too good?? :duh:

Erm, what do you do at UCL if I might ask?? And you are lucky that you got this faar to be honest, as at Royal Holloway you have to fill in forms, and talk to wannabe important people, if you want anything out of the ordinary, ie. something that the tecchie people might not like...

Anyway, best of luck and let us know how it goes! :thumb:

I will always hate the fact that my PowerBook is the same speed as the revision before mine, and the revision after mine (i.e. MacBook Pro) is significantly, significantly faster. I think they should let me trade it, it bums me out that much.

So to get the higher education discount you can't just order it straight off the net from the education store??

Seeing as before I finish uni in june I want to take advantage of my Apple discount it would be better to know now if I can leave my purchase to the last minute or not  (I also hope they update the mac mini before now and then!! I want it with core duo goodness!!)

You can order your apple product with HE discount on the web there is no delay you just have to be on a uni network now I believe.

    Go to the HE store.

PS Win XP has been done on a Intel Mac, though it was only the developer machines not a production model.

Windows XP on intel macs is possible as it is possible to get around the EFI issues using parts of vista's boot code I believe :)

It will never be easy to do though!
