Aye, it's true what Pookeyhead said back there! And from what's in the public bio (don't wish to seems scary - sometimes I get bored!), seems there's practical knowledge there also.
can we. .. Can we see a sample of the e-mail your sending to the host? Or does it have confidential stuff in it?
I mean no disrespect, bigz, but... get off yer arse. This was reported to us almost a week ago now. It's been on the perpetrator's website longer than that. He has disrespected you and disregarded your reasoned response. He has a PayPal link for donations to him for his hard work -- stealing copyrighted work. You must act swiftly and decisively or he will not know justice and neither will you. You have already waited too long without proper action. You gave him notice, he ignored it and now it's time to do something more. Call his ISP. Do it post haste or they will do nothing to protect your rights. An ISP administrator is more likely to take some action against an errant subscriber if it is called to their attention immediately. You don't need an attorney for this, just your polite and inquisitive demeanor. Ask what steps you must take to have copyrighted material removed from an account they are hosting. Have the address of the material at the ready (not the address of the site - the image addy on that site will do just fine). The admin will explain the steps he/she can take, including questioning the member. Explain that you have already discussed it with the member and be ready to forward your correspondence or a link to his comments online. It's a very simple procedure, bigz, and there is absolutely no reason to hesitate. This may not seem like a big deal, but things like this need to be aggressively challenged or guys like unoid and Hippo will multiply. Most times it will not cost you to take action except for the cost of a phone call. And I do mean a phone call too. Don't write, don't email, CALL the ISP admin. Their number is listed. Get your thoughts together and make the call. NOW! Grump
He did say a few posts back that he has 5 articles to write. I've written a few articles in my time, and I know what a pain in the ass that can be. I'm sure he wouldn't have started this thread and collated all this info on copyright for amusement. The person in question will no doubt be watching this thread with a certain trepidation also... he knows what's coming.
Well, I've waited and waited for a reply... I've just sent my last email to him: Now, his name servers are: Code: unoid.net NS ns2.powweb.com unoid.net NS ns3.powweb.com which led me to http://www.powweb.com/contact.htm based in California, I'll be ringing them later this afternoon. Pookeyhead - I did say that I'd got a lot on at the moment, but that was in another thread (the superpi thread) good spot though
right, I spoke to a member of staff from his hosts this evening, and I've emailed him over the details of the copyright infringement, I'll also be faxing them tomorrow. He seemed to be quite concerned about the copyright infringement, while quite helpful at the same time, I should hopefully get a reply/some action taken very soon.
my god, check out his front page now... oh and I got this from him: My reply to that: I don't think he understands either the US or the UK copyright law. Oh well, we have to educate some people
Just love the way this guy lays the guilt trip with the "You're hampering the spirit of modding" rhetoric... what a tool! I question the validity of a site that relies on stealing images anyway. If he had real practical experience of actually performing these mods he would have his own pics. ANyone can paste together a site on "how to do..." this or that from stolen stuff off the net, but I prefer to trust one made by someone who actually DID the mods, and not just disseminate what others have written/done.
