Yes, very telling I find them handy if someone has the same or similar setup and they post a problem with it, at least I'm able to stick my oar in.
images in sigs have their place on some forums. For example if you're on a gaming league forum, you might want to represent your team and have its logo and your name on a sig. I always thought it was cool The same applies if you're on a sports forum where you show your colors. There are other exceptions as well
I hope that image signatures are never allowed - not matter how nice they look or how well they fit to the website they make it a LOT harder for me to read threads for some reason (I find it almost impossible to make sense of even a very basic discussion on some forums that have image signatures...)
I don't know of any forum software that doesn't let you disable signatures. Check your preferences on the forums you're using If you need to see someones signature, you can always see it in their profile.
QFT, there was only 1 animated sig image that i actually thought worked, can't remember where it was, but it was about people speaking on forums in l337 speak. Sam
Still hasn't stopped, I hate to be forumist but it does seem like something that has increase a lot with the addition of CustomPC (who I am generally very happy to have around as it were) actually, in looking for the person I found earlier, I found this thread which implies that images in sigs are actively being encouraged. Please stop! edit: OK no I realise that bit-tech staff have facilitated this and therefore it is unlikely to stop. Is there a way to enforce the unofficial rules on sigs that I think Mr_Ted or Nexxo started so that they aren't getting massive? 2nd edit: done some more reading that I really should have done before posting here - the folding images are only for the folding forum which is fine by me, sorry for getting so worked up about it.
As alastor stats, image sigs will only apply to the folding at home section of the forum and only to display folding stats. Other than that, I believe there is no intention to introduce the abomination that is image sigs.
Come on Glider, you are just moaning for the sake of moaning now. It only applies to a very small section of the forum, most likely one you don't visit (or maybe you do).
Call it whatever you want, it's bending the rules... But indeed, it's located at a forum which I won't be visiting that often...
There's no rule that says rules must be global to a forum. Also, way to go to make people feel welcome, and since you admit yourself you won't be visiting it, why do you care?
We had this whole discussion when Scan was added too. I just don't understand why Bit-tech alters the rules for an other community to join in. Lots of the regulars over here actually LIKE the rules and to bend them just to get some to join in is... questionable... I welcome the CPC guys & gals with open arms, but under our rules. It's not like when you move from Belgium to Britain you can start driving on the right, just because you are used to doing it... Also, great way of supporting the regulars over here... Why do I care? Because I care for the BT community... I don't want to be a guardian kind of guy but I don't want to sell out to Dennis neither. Well, I guess it's all starting to get crystal clear to me. Revenue is all that's cared for nowadays.
But that was legitimately explained and no one else ever created a fuss except you. Like Nanopoint, it was a manufacturer forum, controlled and used by them to help promote good things for our readers. It is a benefit - a place where you can go to ask questions directly to the companies. No, it's not, we're an evolving community, it's not my fault you are so opposed to very slight tweaks to very small parts of the forums. A contradiction in terms. Put your arms around to greet them, then whisper in their ear "dont get any bright ideas, boy!" ?? The difference is it's not like Belgium was closed overnight, creating a few million refugees. We ALWAYS support the regulars with competitions and mod of the month, promoting forum mods and excellent community projects to the front page - YOU know that. We ALWAYS listen to constructive points but whinging about the same thing doesn't weigh in. That's again, utter shite. We won on the green plague for starters and you don't know what's gone on behind the scenes that Alex and Tim constantly have to fight against. You care about your own perception of the BT community, even when you're in the complete minority. Fundementally we're still the same but we have to accommodate as we inevitably get bigger. As much as we value your input and your technical skill, if you don't like it, there are plenty of other forums to go to. You are free to post here or wherever you like - you haven't paid a subscription to bit-tech.
So if the same people post outside the F@H section, image sigs don't display? I'm cool with that. I had a look at the old CPC forum and tbh, I think the merger is going to be more of an adjustment for the posters over there than the old Bit-Tech peeps. We should be used to change by now, it's an integral part of technology. My only suggestion would be that if there are only ever going to be two CPC sub forums, perhaps having them side by side would help visually.
