    hey all

i have a wireless network setup at home and the router currently is in the attic, as its the easiest and most connected place.

i have a t-mobile mda vario and would like to extend the range of my wireless router to cover my bedroom which is in the next house. (network is protected and a pre-shared key used)

what can i do to improve the range of the signal?

ideally i'd like to just play around with settings rather than moving the router and buying a new aerial!

    any help would be appreciated

    thanx

Change it to Channels 1 or 11, I find those give the free-est range and best connectivity.

Do you have any place where you could put a wireless repeater in between?

    hey
yeah, thats what i was considering. but it needs to be discreet and cheap!

i have an ethernet wire coming from the router into the second house where i am, and i could put a router/wireless repeater/extender in there.

    would that work?

going to change the channel of the router soon too, its on 6 at the moment and its rubbish!

i can actually get another router, well, its an ADSL wireless modem/router jobby. a netgear one.

how would i connect that into the existing network?

    currently it is as follows:

Attic: Main Router and ADSL feed in here. MAIN router: this gives out:
    1) LAN to pc1
    2) LAN to router 2
    router 2 gives out to:
    1) Mac g4
    2) House no 2

could i just replace the second router with the adsl router and away i go? would i need to configure anything asides from the wireless? or would i just plug the main feed from the attic into port 1 on the adsl router, and then a wire from there to the mac and from router to second house?

so in effect, im replacing the second router with a wireless/router jobby.
    would this work?

    thanx

If I understand what you are saying completely, it should work if you just plug the cable into a LAN spot on the ADSL router, and disable DHCP on the ADSL router.

Do all that but dont forget to change the second router ip to be different from the first, otherwise you wont be able to config them because both routers would have the same ip.
