    In a power supply is the transformer a lower amperage and voltage regulators handle more of a load along with it?

    In a PSU, all the power flows through one or more of the transformers. The basically just step down high voltage (250V mains) to a lower voltage suitable for rectification and/or PWM. Chances are there is a lot of juice going through the transformer.
