Modding in car stereo with detatchable face

im just wondering almost every body has a stereo with a detacable face well at least some people do i was wondering if there are any mods with the detachble face considering its a lcd display with buttons it wouls be a really good mod

it would also be some work with the coding involved

 

it could be done if ur willing to **** it up

u need to have connection terminals for each out put and in put the screen and buttons have

 

I agree that would be a very costly/risky modd to try but the end result if it worked would really

 

Hmm... I happen to have one in my garage, and I may very well be willing to destroy it to see if it works.... let you know if I try it.

 

im not willing to mess it up though it looks like you gight be able to hook it up to a serial cable and run some software i dont know but i was just looking at it when i made the thred i droped it (no harm done) when i picked it up i was looking at my pc i was thinking damn that might be an awsome mod but only if you could do it with out modding the face plate its self (i still use it)

 

hehe, us computer modders are all willing to tear into a new computer part that cost 200 dollars, but not a head unit worth 300


would be very cool if it worked.. utnot if it didnt lol so...do it

you might have to reverse engineer it til you get to some commen parts follow the traces


it just looks like you can hook it up to a printer port or a serial cable i may try it and see if some thing hapens but im to scared

 

mate my sound system didnt cost me 300$ it cost me more like $4500Aud

but anyway mate go for it but if u do it and the qualty in the pic isnt to good or it dont work at all atleast u tried and failed then havent tried at all

 

delay as posted in a thread my radiator blew in my truck and i left my face plate under the seat and the more i think about it the more im doubting my self i know it would look good but if i broke it i would be with out a stereo in my truck for along time


Edit: someone broke in to my truck and stole my stereo and speakers so all i have is the faceplate so im prety much all for it now

 

ive donesum looking into and me and me mates tried it and it works well we didnt do an LCD but we relocated the face panel of his stereo to the dash where the spedo is and masked the stereo up with a perspex front tinted and a brushed openin so the cds can go in and out

so it works just hopeing it gives u a little more corage to do it

 

i thought they wern going to be able to use it because i still have the face plate but i did a search on ebay and they sell deh-14 faceplates so that sucks any way if you don't know what im talking about read the last post by me

there is a few connections on the back but my camera isnt sharp enough to really pick up the chips i just need help making a connection for it so i can hook it up to my computer and start making software for it it would be great to control winamp or other media players i still have the face plate though so i need to do something with it
