Recently got these after seeing you post this before and seeing mass reviews saying how amazing they are. I have to say, they do infact rock.
Ignore the whole CX300 being amazing thing. They're certainly not bad for the money. However, take a look at SoundMagic PL11s for that kinda price. Very impressive for the money, far more so than the mediocre CX300s.
I'd be interested if anyone has any links to comparitive reviews of in-ear-monitor headphones I found one from Sound & Vision here. And more of an opinion piece here A lot of these sites seem to say the same thing : make sure you find the right size & material of ear-tip to suit your ear. (And I guess I'll give the Etymotic's a try in the near future)
The CX-300s are't bad but go with lamboman's rec, the PL11s, they're cheaper. The CX-380s are a bit more durable but that's about it.
It's true, tips are very important, far more important than people give them credit for. The thing that I really hate about headphone reviews is that headphones themselves are such a personal thing, in the same way that any other audio equipment is. So many reviews of headphones seem to be based of a desire to have a different sound preference each review as well...
go to head-fi.org for whatever headphone/earphone questions you might have. be prepared to spend at least 10 times more than you originally planned though, portable audio is quite an expensive hobby. myself I would recommend anything from ultimate ears or etymotic, depending on your price range.
I'd agree with the CX-300s not being amazing, however they're more than fairly good and they're easy to find in shops too.
course there not amazing but as most people know portable audio is an expensive hobby I love good audio but im not prepared to pay £150 on a pair of earbuds im going to rap around an mp3 player and shove in my back pocket the cx-300 are great value for that!
The right headphone on my cx300's has gone funny, it only plays the bass notes. Other than that they had been good until then.
EvilMerc, Which Waitrose branch do you work at? You might find something cheap in there to use as a temp/spare. I know my branch has in the past sold in-ear headphones, but we are a large branch. But if you were to buy them in branch, you would get 15% off, not the 12% you would get off in JL. Sam
Portishead branch. We do sell a couple sets but they're nothing worth writing home about, but you do make a very good point, I'd never have considered that. I have my CX-300 IIs now though and I'm happy.
Ah nice, I'm Chichester branch, Bonus should be good this year *Fingers Crossed* Did you get the CX-300 II's from JL or Argos? Thinking of getting some myself, 12% off is better than nothing off. SAm
I'm reckoning 15%+; it's been a good year! Got them from JL, about £25 after discount which isn't too shabby plus you get the two year guarantee. Argos only stock the lesser CX-200s, the range there sucks a bit.
I found the Sennheiser CX380 for $18 at newegg, as much as I like the Zens I have now I'm thinking of picking up a pair just incase the Creative ZEN AURVANAs wear out or break
