I thank you all for your input, but does anyone have any plans/guides on how to build one...

Charge up a really big cap, say on of those 1f ones for car audio and run it through a really tightly wound coil very quickly. Beyond that try the a bomb thing.

Why is it they use those big Caps in car audio system???? always wondered that

as far as i konw the only way to generate a "significant" emp would be the bomb method. try the anarchist's cookbook, i think i saw it in there between "grow your own anthrax" and "assasination for dummies" ah that jolly rodger, what will he think off/destroy/kill/maime/corrupt/microwave/get-high-off/make-a-weapon-of-mass-destruction-from next?

Err... PC Junky, why would you want to build one "for fun"? Can't you just play with the Degauss button on your monitor? I mean, there's just no point. You cannot make an EMP generator powerful enough to even temporarily wink out your TV from accross the living-room without invoking some serious resources and skill. And if you have to ask (here, of all places) how to make one, then I'm sorry dude, but you haven't got the resources or the skill.

I'm as much a fan of gratuitous technology as anyone here, but let's move on from those early teenage years when we spent our days blowing things up for fun...

I once saw a webby with video clips of people pouring liquid oxygen on smouldering fires :D :D :D :D "WUMPF!!"

They were adults as far as im aware :p

making things explode is always fun its just the older you get the bigger the explosion you need for the same feeling so you cant do it so often. if u read the articles section i think youll find that there is an article dedicated to the destruction of leds

who here honestly dosent like playing with explosives / fire / hot things like soldering irons cpus etc

ok i think ive stuck my neck out far enuf (lets hope my head dosent get cut off :worried: )

So what are these electro-magnetic pulse generator cause they are obviously some funky stuff, what is the big fuss, what they for

They short out electronic equipment and burn flesh; i think from the inside out.

Oh and they use huge cap's in audio equipment to make sure the current is available for laud bursts in the music. It sharpens up the bass.

www.amazing1.com - lots of EMP stuff there, and railguns:naughty:

@ RascalRusty: EMP generators generate a big-ass electromagnetic field, which rises to about 50.000 V/m and decays again, all within a few nanoseconds . Because of the wide area of coverage, an EMP caused by for instance a nuclear blast (which gives you an idea of what sort of juice must be invoked to create an EMP, really) can induce large voltages and currents in power lines, communication cables, radio towers, and other long conductors serving a facility.

Since electronics can get upset by as little as a static discharge from your woolen sweater, you can safely assume this pulse fries electronics pretty terminally if they're unprotected. High electric field gradients can induce voltage drops that blow inputs, burn out circuits, etc. Lots of protection mechanisms are in place for this, of course. Latch-up in CMOS circuits, field oxide overvoltage
breakdown, etc. There is an entire sub-industry devoted to electrostatic discharge (ESD), with conferences, products, consulting services, etc.

Modern chips can usually handle static charge buildups that are in the tens of thousands of volts range (input protection devices are on the input pads). Static discharge should be avoided (wrist strap!), but most modern devices will survive the static discharges that folks can generate. So a distant (tens of meters away) source of electromagnetic fields will have a pretty hard time of creating field gradients able to equal these 50,000 volt local fields caused routinely by static buildup.

As far as I'm aware EMP is harmless to the body in itself.

he might want to spray speople secretly with stuff which si repelled by an EMP pulse, then attack the building, and he has a brilliant gun which is like something from SCI-FI :D:D

or make a floating chair :) (or is that an electromagnet  )

USAF is considerating to use a EMP bomb over Irak, to destroy all electronics of the country and no Irakies downs.

wouldn't that fry the bomber's circuitry... or didn't the USAF think of little things like that...

I can imagen the speach by bush now....

It wouldnt have to detonate on impact.

Hey that reminds me... GOLDENEYE! wasnt that huge laser thingy in space supposed to make an EMP?

Yes. That satelite in space on goldeneye was a giant consentrated EMP cannon.

Supposedly you can make EMP with a stick of dynamite with a coil wrapped around it, but i haven't tried it...:worried:
