I have to keep a weekly note of my weight and use a spreadsheet to do so. But I need to add the date manually. I assume there is some way just to add a date in the top row and it will infill in the rows below a progression of weekly dates?

I am not sure that I have explained what I meant very well so any questions please ask.

Under your date cell (which we'll assume is cell A1), type =A1+7, then use the fill handle to drag this formula down as far as you want.

To use the fill handle position your mouse in the bottom right of a cell until the cursor becomes a cross, drag downwards and release the button when you've reached your destination.

Nick tried that but I could not figure out what the fill handle is/means. Just consider me an Excel idiot and lead me please.

Once the formula has been entered, move the cursor the the bottom right hand side of the cell - it will then change to a plus symbol - left click and drag to the cells bellow.
That will copy the formula to those dells.
