Ive got a Greenwich Instruments GiRBIL installed on my machine, and what i want to do is use it with a remote control for winamp etc. The only problem is windows is constantly using it so no other program can initilize the device.

Is there anyway to stop windows using the port?

    cheers

try looking in your control pannel and see what windows is trying to use it for. maybe turn off the "use ir port to get pics from camera" that may be causing the ir port to continually look for a camera. play around with those settings and see if you can get windows to loose its grip on the device. i am hoping to utilize an ir port to control winamp with my palm in my next computer.
