    Hi guys!

    It seems like ill be having a second case build coming up from a client request ^^

    Well... its obvious that there are alot of crazy people out there.. and if someone are gonna make a 100TB fileserver... how can i possibly put it down?

    Sketches are being made as i write this, so its coming soon..

    However, some of the requests thats been made this far :

    * Room for atleast 80 harddrives
    * Room for 3 PSU's
    * 1 mobo slot
    * Air cooled
    * Possibility to mount a screen in front
    * No rack looks :p
    * As light as possible
    * Sturdy and movable

    Im kinda clueless right now to be honest... but kinda thinking about having the disks out in more or less free air, without the casing around.

    The current design for disk holders thats going into the 7th.Gen can be adopted to fit in this rack aswell... there will be 4 lanes with 20 drives each atleast... god this will be heavy 0.o

    Afraid that alu wont cut it this time around... did anyone say steel? lol

    Why do they not want to use a rack? I really can't see the justification (other than it *literally* will look cool) for building an aesthetically pleasing file server. None of the servers I've ever built have been anything special to look at. Tidily built, yes... but the main thing is functionality. "No rack looks" just screams silly to me. Besides, racks look awesome. Especially if they and their contents are designed and installed well ;)

    [edit]

    By the way, I'm not putting this project down at all. I love the idea, but I would like to understand why your client has requested this rather than just a standard (if there is such a thing) 100 TB server. I make a point not to post negative comments about others work here on bit-tech. Constructive criticism, questions or leave it alone is my rule of thumb.

    Well my friend, as stated above... there are some crazy people out there ^^

    I dont know his intentions of building a custom case for this, but in some way, i can see why he would... CUS ITS POSSIBLE!

    Its all about the awesome ! though... racks are prefered i guess regards to functionality.

    But hey, its never hurt anyone to have something different around ^^

    If I had the cash, I'd have a 100TB array dominating my living room. It might replace the coffee table. I can see it as a work of art.

    Mod on!

    maybe not a coffee table
    but over in the corner of the room with a plexiglass front door
    then yes
    maybe even wire up activity LEDs inside a piece of 'frosted' plexiglass fronts on each HDD
    that way you could see which ones are being accessed :p
