These are shipping on '2 day delivery' (that will be a sight to behold) from Dell for £529 with a Core i3 380m and ATi HD5650M 1gb graphics. The disk is 500gb and you get 4gb of ram. I have a discount voucher I got off Dell by way of apology from previous orders being cocked up, so I can get it delivered for under £500. Does anyone have an opinion of these, only experiences the Studio range recently...although they seem to have stopped these. If I spend more (about 7 ton) I can get an XPS 17, but it appears to have the same processor, but Nvidia 435M graphics...is this better than the ATi. ?..although it will have to work harder on the larger res of the 17. I want to be able to run it out to my monitor also. How does i3 380m compare now, seems a 'low end' i3, how does it do in laptops, clock for clock vs the old Core 2 ? Cheers
the inspirons are very well built, spec is also very good as-well pretty sure you wont have a problem with it, my inspiron i bought 4 years ago survived my front room ceiling falling on it, went back the next after the dust had settled to pick it up and it litterally only had two small scratches on the lid!!!
Thanks, I ordered one, seems good value. The only issue is it said delivered in 2 days (in fact because of the weekend, said I would have it on the 14th). They are now specifying mid April. As I promised my 8 year old I would have him a new computer to use 'soon', I am reasonably miffed at the scum at Dell.
I feel your pain, orderd my brother a game which wasnt delivered today got that silly sorry you wernt home thing from royal mail and hes not a happy bunny. Dell are very good, my inspirion 1720 lasted me near two years but sold it due to it being fecking huge. Enjoy
I've got a 15R, its very good, but prone to getting a tad toasty. Mine has only got the 5470, but still plays CoD, L4D2 and BC2 quite happily. Screen is good, sound is good for a laptop, lots of ports, and apart from overheating during gaming, nothing's gone wrong with mine since I got it in September. And WAY better than all the others I tried out for the same approx cost
I had an inspiron 1520 series with the amazing (for its time) 1440x900 screen. It died a motherboard death after 2 years and 2 months.
I used to be a product rep for these dells. They are not bad at all. Aesthetically my main complaint is the super shiny, fingerprint-prone surfaces. They do get pretty toasty as well, more-so than I think is the norm. Overall though, a very nice platform, plenty of ports, mostly in logical locations.
